Part-time Kitchen Manager

The Friday Night Supper Program (FNSP) is looking for a Part-time Kitchen Manager, twice a month for approximately 10 hours/week to coordinate the weekly meals that we serve to our guests. The Kitchen Manager leads the overall planning and preparation of the weekly meal by planning the meal, supervising the food prep and cooking, maintaining kitchen inventory and complying with safety and cleanliness standards. This is a great opportunity for an experienced Kitchen Manager to supplement their current work for someone who wants to gain additional valuable skill, all while providing a valuable service to some of Boston’s most vulnerable residents. Preference given to those with community meal, catering, or other forms of high volume experience.

Our program operates out of the Arlington Street Church in Back Bay and is easily accessible by T. We serve a hot, fresh sit-down meal every week to anyone who desires to join us, and offer a safe space for community and connection.

Pay rate: Starts at $20-23; Depending on experience.

Specific Responsibilities Include:

Be present two Fridays a month from 11am-7pm to manage volunteers in preparing and cooking warm, nutritious meals for up to 125 guests each week.

Plan weekly meals that are warm, nutritious, and balanced, including a vegetarian/vegan option.

Maintain a safe and clean kitchen environment during meal prep and serving.

Meet a weekly donation truck from the local food rescue agency, and select usable items for that week’s meal from the truck. Must be able to succinctly and creatively identify ingredients and how to incorporate them into the weekly meal.

Communicate with the Executive Director and existing Kitchen Manager on any items that are low stock or needed, and determine any special items needed for the weekly meal.

Collaborate with the Executive Director to make continuous improvements to the program and its offerings, and to address any concerns or challenges that arise

Interact with guests to ensure that their dietary needs are being met

You Are:

Dedicated to diminishing food insecurity in the Boston community. Committed to giving back to the Boston community.

Experienced working in kitchens - previous kitchen management experience with the basic understanding of a range of cuisines, creative passion for food, knowledgeable about kitchen functions from dish to dessert.

Hold a current ServSafe certificate, traditional or manager.

A strong leader who can work independently, delegate effectively, and provide leadership to our volunteers each week.

Able to thrive in a fast-paced environment, think on your feet, and be highly flexible and adaptable to changing circumstances and needs.

A great communicator and team player.

Familiar with hunger-related issues, and maybe even have experience working or volunteering in a community meal program.

Able to lift up to 25-50 pounds.
