Farm Kitchen Assistant and Prep Cook at non profit FARM, 20 hours/week

We’re looking for a passionate Farm Kitchen Assistant / Prep Cook to join our vibrant on-farm commercial kitchen team. In this role, you’ll play a key part in increasing the production of our high-quality, Codman-made offerings, keeping the farm store stocked with the delicious prepared foods our customers love and rely on. You’ll also have the opportunity to support our educational classes and events, all while maintaining the highest standards of cleanliness and food safety.

Reports to: Farm Chef and Senior Manager; Store Operations

Daily Responsibilities:

Food Production: 40%

Prepare existing recipes to established standards, ensuring consistency and quality, including preparing raw produce and meats.

Slice deli meats to specifications.

Maintain a well-stocked inventory of prepared food items in the store

Kitchen Setup and Maintenance: 30%

Maintain kitchen in a clean and organized manner, including washing dishes and cleaning surfaces, walls, floors, windows, and other areas as needed.

Adhere to all food safety protocols and procedures to maintain a safe food production environment.

Report any performance or safety concerns to the Farm Kitchen Chef promptly.

Teaching and Food Event Support: 20%

Assist in the preparation and execution of educational and food-related events.

Interact professionally with the public, providing excellent customer service.

Prepare and serve food as needed during events

Other: 10%

Maintain ServSafe and Allergen Awareness certifications, ensuring all associated procedures are followed

Assist Farm Store customers as needed

Perform additional duties as assigned

Skills and Qualifications:

Have at least 1 year of experience working in a professional kitchen (equivalent experience will be considered)

Demonstrate passion for the CCF mission, farming, food, and sustainability

Commit to working 20+ hours per week, including occasional weekends (punctuality and reliability are essential)

Follow and execute recipes with consistency

Collaborate effectively as part of a team and take direction

Work quickly and independently while maintaining cleanliness and organization, at times in the absence of the Farm Chef

Multitask and work efficiently in a fast-paced environment

Adhere to all food safety procedures

Complete Allergy Awareness and ServSafe certifications

Pass a CORI check due to work with children and volunteers

Perform physical tasks as part of daily work, including standing for long periods, lifting/carrying heavy items (up to 50 lbs), bending, stooping, and kneeling.

Maintain a positive attitude, stay open-minded, and communicate openly and honestly to solve problems.

Work Schedule:

This is a part-time, year-round position that averages 20 hours a week

Weekend and evening work is required, as needed, with advanced notice

The schedule is flexible and will be determined in collaboration with the Farm Chef

The first three months of employment will be a probationary period, during which job performance will be evaluated.

It’s also home to our bustling farm store, a beautiful market and flower garden, and commercial kitchen.
