Smolak Farms - Assistant Agricultural Manager and Agricultural Workers

Smolak Farms is rebuilding the agricultural work team by adding a new position and seeking hard working qualified workers. They will join our agricultural manager in running one of the most iconic and innovative farm businesses in the North East.

Smolak Farms is a 300 year old family farm located in the North East corner of Massachusetts about 25 miles North of Boston and minutes from the New Hampshire border.

Job Description for Assistant Manager:

Responsible for helping to manage all farm agricultural operations

Agricultural managerial experience is required

Experience with fruit crops preferred, apples, peaches, plums, strawberries, raspberries, blueberries, cherries and Christmas trees culture

Responsible for supervising and managing staff of 4-10 employees year round

Responsible for helping with maintenance of farm equipment

Must assist with all aspects of production including planning, planting and harvesting.

Familiar with some aspects of Agricultural Tourism and Entertainment

The ideal candidate for this job will be hard working, reliable, and have experience managing and working with others

Detail oriented

Must be at once a knowledgeable spokesperson, a manager and a problem solver.

Job description for Agricultural Workers:

Some agricultural experience is helpful

Able to drive a tractor and some light machinery use

Must have a valid drivers license

Planting and maintenance and harvest of crops

Enjoying working outdoors (watering, weeding, mulching, harvesting) in all kinds of weather

Must be able to lift 50 lbs

Room for advancement

Job Duties:

Spraying and orchard and crop hygiene and develop plan to address all aspects of crop management

pesticide license is desirable but will help to acquire a license.

Assure equipment is in good operating shape

Plan and execute aspects of planting and maintenance and harvest of crops

Enjoying working outdoors (watering, weeding, mulching, harvesting) in all kinds of weather

Replenish farm stand with a goal to increase farm stand sales.

Work in concert with of Department Managers

Equipment Use and Maintenance

Tractor, spraying equipment , equipment mowing, irrigation and drip irrigation

Essential Skills:

Two years minimum agricultural management experience

Ability to plan and manager staff

Have basic word processing, email and spreadsheet skills to fulfill the above requirements

Respond to inquiries from the public promptly

First Aid and CPR certification desired but will train

Must be able to lift 50 lbs and climb ladders

Subject to drug testing

Successful candidate will undergo a CORI/SORI

Valid driver's license required

High School Diploma

We are looking for a "jack of all trades" who is hard working and willing to work year round.

This is a full-time year round position with a schedule that varies (including weekends and holidays).

Compensation:

Negotiable based on experience with co management a possibility

Vacation and sick time benefits
