  • Conduct gap analysis to compare the client's data structure and content to that of the standard expected for that EMR, billing, or adjudicated claims data source
  • Evaluate the client's data to locate data elements of interest to our application. Complex cases involve reconciliation of data in multiple locations, clever ways of imputing information from sub-par data, and de-duplication strategies
  • Map client local terminologies to Optum Analytics standard concepts
  • Document your findings as specifications and implement the corresponding ETL
  • Work collaboratively with other team members during implementation
  • Investigate data related questions raised by both internal and external clients
  • Contribute to technical documentation of specifications and processes
  • Participate in the ongoing invention, testing and use of tools used by the team to improve processes and bring scale

  • Undergraduate degree or equivalent experience in health sciences, health information systems, computer science, mathematics, engineering, or related field
  • Experience working with, analyzing, and understanding data
  • Experience working with SQL , Scala or another data analysis language (SAS, R, MATLAB)
  • Intermediate skills using Microsoft Excel
  • If you need to enter a work site for any reason, you will be required to screen for symptoms using the ProtectWell mobile app, Interactive Voice Response (i.e., entering your symptoms via phone system) or a similar UnitedHealth Group-approved symptom screener. When in a UnitedHealth Group building, employees are required to wear a mask in common areas, In addition, employees must comply with any state and local masking orders.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Ability to query large data sets using SQL and query optimization skills.
  • Working knowledge of health information systems
  • Clinical or medical data analysis are highly preferred
  • Understanding of clinical processes and vocabulary
  • Familiarity or experience working with AWS/Azure on Cloud or Big Data concepts.

  • Strong organization skills, very detail oriented, with careful attention to work processes
  • Takes ownership of responsibilities and follows through hand-offs to other groups
  • Competence with PCs and Windows Office applications

  • Experience with or an interest in learning to work with complex health care databases
  • Good written and oral communications skills
  • Ability to analyze user requests, define requirements, investigate and report conclusions.
  • Ability to communicate complex concepts, verbally and in writing to others, including clients.
