Seafarers Addictions & Rehabilitation Center (ARC) Director

Large non-profit organization located in Piney Point, MD has an opening for an ARC Director. The Addictions Rehabilitation Director leads the rehabilitation center and staff and is the head of all the counseling efforts at the inpatient facility. The Addictions Rehabilitation Director provides individual and group counseling and rehabilitation services so that mariners may be eligible to restore their credentials that allow them to work in the maritime industry. The Director is responsible for the oversight of an addiction counselor trainee, two addiction educators, temporary house managers and administrative personnel who assist with groups and provide support for clients at the residential facility.

This position is responsible for providing educational material to apprentices and existing union members at an affiliated union affiliated training school. The Director provides education on substance abuse, mental health wellness, suicide prevention, sexual abuse and harassment prevention, and stress management. The Director provides about 4 hours per week of lectures and small group sessions.

The Director may provide limited counseling for mental health concerns to school apprentices and union members while at the school.

The Director may provide treatment for anger management to individuals who are referred for short term residential interventions.

The Director will assist with identifying resources for treatment and for DOT mandated SAP evaluations if the member is not eligible for treatment at the ARC.

This position provides updates to Leadership as necessary on issues related to substance abuse, DOT regulations related to drug and alcohol testing, US Coast Guard regulations, and mental health issues.

Candidate must have Master’s degree in Clinical Psychology; Licensed Certified Alcohol and Drug Counselor; and qualify as a Department of Transportation (DOT) Substance Abuse Professional (SAP). Five years of working experience in a counseling and rehabilitation position is required. Excellent interpersonal and communication skills, and superior computer skills (MS Word, MS Excel, MS Power Point, MS Outlook) are preferred. The candidate must demonstrate exceptional clinical skills and experience in handling crisis situations.
