UPMC Western Maryland is seeking a dedicated and passionate LPN to join our dynamic nursing team on the 7 North Med/Surg Unit. This is a fantastic opportunity for nurses who thrive in a fast-paced, high-acuity environment!About the Unit: Our 7 North Med/Surg Unit is a 36-bed unit with an average daily census of 25. We cater to a variety of diagnoses, with a primary focus on urological, gynecological, and GI procedures. We also specialize in wound care and the treatment of cellulitis patients.Position Details: This is a full-time position requiring rotating weekend and holiday shifts. As an LPN, you will be expected to exercise sound nursing judgment based on preparation, knowledge, and experience in nursing. You will provide care and IV therapy following UPMC LPN Practice Guidelines and policies, and the State Board Regulations.Responsibilities:

Participate in the planning, implementation, and evaluation of nursing care using focused assessment.

Communicate with a licensed professional nurse and the patient’s health care team members to seek guidance when the patient’s care needs exceed the LPN’s scope of practice or knowledge, skill, or ability.

Follow the written, established policies and procedures of UPMC, UPMC LPN Practice Guidelines, and the State Practice Act.

Create a caring and compassionate patient-focused experience by building healing relationships with patients, families, and colleagues.

Actively participate in unit activities and provide assistance to care team members.

Provide detailed and appropriate teaching to patients and families to effectively guide them through the episode of care as well as transition to another level of care and/or home.

Must be a licensed LPN

Graduation from a Licensed Practical Nursing Program approved by the State Board of Nursing.

Experience: 0 to 2 years.

Nurse Assignment: Must take assignment at the top of LPN license in a med/surg/tele or Emergency Department setting.

Patient Care: Ability to demonstrate the knowledge and skills necessary to provide care and/or interact appropriately to the ages of the patients served by the assigned unit. Must also demonstrate knowledge of the principles of growth and development over the life span and possess the ability to assess data reflective of the patient’s status.

Process Improvement: Ability to identify opportunities to improve patient care and collaborate with the health care team and the patients and families to achieve desired patient outcomes.

Relationship Building: Ability to establish and maintain positive, caring relationships with executives, managers, physicians, non-physician providers, ancillary and support staff, other departments, and patients/families.

Work Environment: Ability to work productively and effectively within a complex environment, handle multiple/changing priorities and specialized equipment.

Physical Stamina: Mobility and visual manual dexterity required. Must have the physical stamina for frequent walking, standing, lifting and positioning of patients.

Computer Skills: Required to utilize the electronic health record.
