Summary This position is part of the National Archives and Records Administration, Office of Research Services. The purpose of this position is to perform a broad range of functions required for the acquisition, storage, maintenance, and access of NARA's archival Federal and Court holdings; including holdings management, accessioning, processing, arranging, describing, digitizing, and preserving archival records and providing public services that support access. Responsibilities As an ARCHIVIST, you will: Serve as a main point of contact and communicate with other departments on HMS, ECRM, and holdings security in general. Perform a wide range of actions required for processing archival records according to NARA policies, procedures, and standards. Participate in the development and delivery of formal and informal training. Resolve uncertainties about the provenance of transferred records. Propose and lead projects to improve Holdings Management System data reliability. Requirements Conditions of Employment The experience may have been gained in either the public, private sector or volunteer service. One year of experience refers to full-time work; part-time work is considered on a prorated basis. A one-year probationary period may be required. Must successfully complete a background investigation. Complete a Declaration for Federal Employment to determine your suitability for Federal employment, at the time requested by the agency. Physical demands may include climbing caster-equipped ladders, maneuvering on catwalks, moving heavy carts of records, and handling boxes of records stored up to 15 feet above the floor and typically weighing 50 pounds, occasionally more. Qualifications You must meet the following requirements within 30 days of the closing date of this announcement. To be qualified for this position at the GS-12 level, you must have at least one year of specialized experience equivalent to the GS-11 level that has equipped you with the particular knowledge, skills, and abilities to perform successfully the duties of the position, and that is typically in or related to the work of the position to be filled. Specialized experience for this position includes: Performing record maintenance and preservation in adherence with archival principles, procedures and record keeping practice using the Holdings Management System (HMS); AND Providing customer service and guidance with record research, reference and access services; AND Experience with training and creating SOP's; AND Experience leading projects. In addition to the above requirements, you must meet the following time-in-grade requirement, if applicable: For the GS-12, you must have been at the GS-11 level for 52 weeks. Education Individual Occupational Requirements: A. Bachelor's degree in archival science or bachelor's degree with a major that includes 18 semester hours in archival science, history and/or in political science or government, and 12 semester hours in one or any combination of the following: archival science, history, American civilization, economics, political science, public administration, or government. OR B. Combination of education and experience - at least 30 semester hours that included courses as shown in A above, plus appropriate experience or additional education.
