Scientist (Part-Time)

Position Objective: Provide services as a Scientist in support of the overall functions of the Division of Intramural Research (DIR), Laboratory of Parasitic Diseases (LPD), within the National Institute of Allergy and Infectious Diseases (NIAID). Duties and Responsibilities:

Provide primary clinical care and infectious disease expertise for patients with Chagas disease (Trypanosoma cruzi infection), for study participants under the oversight of the principal investigators

Assist in data management and extraction of clinical information from medical records.

Collaborate and discuss clinical and study-related data with the Federal Task Leader and lab staff weekly and as needed.

Assist in preparation of protocol-related data for publication on Chagas disease.

Interact with other study personnel (nurses, case managers, study coordinators).

Clinical teaching activities related to parasitic diseases, specifically Chagas disease.

Basic Qualifications:

Doctoral degree in Medicine (M.D.) in a related field. In addition to an M.D., a minimum of three (3) years of post-graduate (residency) training in internal medicine and at least two (2) years of training as infectious disease specialist.

Must have three (3) years experience in clinical research, specifically, Chagas disease (Trypanosoma cruzi infection).

Ten (10) or more years experience in primary care for patients in clinic or hospital settings.

Professional knowledge of the theories, principles, and methods of scientific specialty or subspecialty and related disciplines, such as biology, microbiology, chemistry, molecular biology, cell biology, immunology, virology, genetics, and biochemistry.

Board certified in internal medicine or infectious diseases.

Must be included under NIH protocol number 97-I-0096: Evaluation, Treatment and Monitoring of Patient with Known or Suspected Parastic Infection.

Minimum Qualifications:

Ability to communicate effectively, orally and in writing, with non-technical and technical staff.

Detail-oriented and possess strong organizational skills with the ability to prioritize multiple tasks and projects.
