Position Objective: Provide services as a Biologist in support of the overall functions of the Vaccine Research Center (VRC), Arbovirus Immunity Section (AIS) within the National Institute of Allergy and Infectious Diseases (NIAID). Duties and Responsibilities:
Perform laboratory research to extend ongoing arbovirus research at the Vaccine Research Center.
Safely handle infectious viruses in a BSL2 laboratory environment.
Produce, characterize, and purify viral stocks, including ultracentrifugation, chromatography, and deep sequencing.
Perform antibody neutralization assays, Western blotting, ELISA, protein purification, and immunoprecipitation studies.
Analyze and interpret data to provide summaries and reports.
Maintain laboratory supplies and equipment as directed by the FTL.
Perform routine maintenance of laboratory equipment in accordance with GLP.
Basic Qualifications:
BS degree in a biology-related field is required.
Minimum of four (4) years of related experience in a laboratory is required
Experience working with infectious viruses is required.
Experience in molecular biology, including real-time PCR, the analysis of virus genome sequences, gene cloning, and developing infectious molecular clones by traditional cloning techniques or gene assembly.
Detail-oriented; ability to compile and track results for large data sets.
Handling biological materials, recombinant protein materials, biological wastes, etc. is required.

Operate and communicate effectively in a group, team-oriented working environment.
Ability to communicate effectively, orally and in writing, with non-technical and technical staff.
Detail-oriented and possess strong organizational skills with the ability to prioritize multiple tasks and projects
