Bankruptcy SpecialistThe Bankruptcy Specialist plays a key role in supporting the firm's bankruptcy practice. This position is responsible for opening and managing files, collecting and accurately entering case information, and maintaining timely communication with courts, clients, and opposing counsel. The specialist also assists with bankruptcy case management, ensuring compliance with legal procedures, firm protocols, and client requirements. Essential Duties and ResponsibilitiesOpen, manage, and maintain bankruptcy case files from intake through resolution.Collect, review, and accurately enter all relevant case documentation into case management systems.Prepare and file legal documents with courts in DC, Maryland, and Virginia in accordance with jurisdiction-specific rules and timelines.Coordinate and communicate professionally with clients, courts, opposing counsel, property managers, and internal attorneys.Monitor and manage court deadlines, hearing dates, and procedural requirements to ensure timely case progression.Assist attorneys with drafting basic pleadings, motions, notices, and affidavits related to bankruptcy proceedings.Track and update the status of each matter; maintain accurate and current records in firm databases and client systems.Support attorneys during bankruptcy proceedings, including Chapter 7 and Chapter 13 filings, proof of claims, motions for relief, and reaffirmation agreements.Ensure compliance with federal bankruptcy laws, local court rules, and client-specific protocols.Maintain an organized workflow and contribute to the development of procedures and best practices for case handling.Provide administrative support including file organization, document scanning, and follow-up on case-related correspondence.Handle sensitive information with confidentiality and professionalism.Perform other duties as requested by supervising attorneys or firm management in support of bankruptcy matters.
