This position is open to MDOT employees only who meet the preferred qualifications below. Nature of Work: This position functions as a Deputy Director, with primary oversight/management responsibility for OPPE’s Program Development Division (PDD) and the Regional and Intermodal Planning Division (RIPD). This position is responsible for assisting in developing and implementing the policies, goals, and objectives of the Director of OPPE, the Deputy Chief Engineer for Planning, Engineering, and Real Estate, the Chief Engineer, and the State Highway Administrator. This position is responsible for development of the Consolidated Transportation Program (CTP), Statewide Planning and Research Program (SPR), and State Transportation Improvement Program (STIP). The Deputy Director works with two division chiefs, the PDD and RIPD division chiefs, to manage its divisional responsibilities. PDD coordinates and produces SHA's portion of MDOT’s CTP (including projecting SHA's six year funding levels and allocating the appropriate categories of federal funds), prepares the SPR Program and STIP and analyzes the fiscal ramifications of proposed changes to federal funding on individual projects. RIPD is responsible for long range systems planning and the integration of SHA's program with local and regional transportation plans, including coordinating with counties and local jurisdictions, supporting the annual statewide CTP tour, and managing the park and ride, transportation alternatives, bicycle/pedestrian programs, grant tracking, grant applications, and grant management. QualificationsPreferred Qualifications: Education: A bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university Experience: Eight (8) years of experience in planning or civil engineering work. Five (5) years of this experience must have involved the supervision of other employees or exercising responsibility for program development. Experience in regional planning, program management, and fund management
Familiarity and understanding of the various capital and system preservation projects developed and implemented by SHA and experience in managing transportation programs

Additional experience in planning or civil engineering work may be substituted on a year-for-year basis for the required education.
U.S. Armed Forces military service experience as defined under the Minimum Qualifications may be substituted for the required education and experience on a year-for-year basis.
