Overview:We are seeking an Electric Shop Supervisor who will plan, assigns, and inspects the work of approximately 10 bargaining unit electricians responsible for the installation, testing, maintenance, and repair of the electrical equipment and infrastructure installed on the Homewood Campus. The Campus is comprised of approximately 4,000,000 gross square feet of building space that is served by multiple high voltage electric feeders which are transformed to lower voltages at the building level.The Supervisor’s primary duties and responsibilities are carried out with considerable independence within the framework of established policies, procedures, and guidelines. The Electrical Shop Supervisor is responsible for formulating and developing unit goals and objectives and providing technical assistance and training to assigned staff. Work and results are reviewed through inspection and analysis of records, reports, completed work orders, and equipment and system performance. This position reports to the Associate Director of Plant Operations.Description:

Schedules, coordinates, and supervises the installation of conduits, wiring, fixtures, devices, and equipment typically found on a large University Campus.

Responsible for maintenance and switching of the campus high voltage electrical system, which includes isolating buildings and cable sections for performing preventive maintenance and making emergency repairs and paralleling feeders through the local utility company.

Troubleshoots and repairs electrical faults occurring in the campus buildings and infrastructure.

Maintains campus fire alarm systems, including testing devices, diagnosing system troubles, and taking systems offline when necessary.

Research new operational methods, techniques and equipment and facilitates their application.

Reviews plans and provides input for future buildings and inspects new buildings to ensure compatibility with existing electrical codes and maintenance standards.

Manages moderately complex electrical installations and repairs performed by outside contractors.

Demonstrates continuous effort to improve operations, decrease turnaround times, streamline work processes, and work cooperatively and jointly to provide quality seamless customer service.

Assists with the preparation of specifications for the purchase of electrical equipment, devices and supplies.

Assists in capital planning process to forecast long term electrical upgrades and capacity increases.

Ensures budgeting guidelines are met; prioritizes shop expenditures to stay within budget and assists in preparation of a $750,000 maintenance reserve budget.

Coordinates electrical outages when required.

Prepares and maintains a variety of electrical records and reports, including employee incident reports.

Ensures the timely completion of preventive maintenance programs.

Anticipates and procures supplies and materials needed for daily operations.

Prepares labor and material estimates.

Produces written documents when necessary and uses personal computers to develop reports and/or spreadsheets.

Applies basic principles and practices of employee supervision and is responsible for the training and development of employees.

Makes decisions regarding hiring, evaluation, promotion and termination of employees.

Interprets university and department policies to assigned personnel and enforces safety regulations and adherence to proper codes and standards.

Be proactive in identifying problems early before they become significant problems requiring greater resources for resolution.

Maintain a safe work environment for direct reports.

Adhere to rules set forth in the bargaining unit contract.

Monitor and document bargaining unit’s grievances, warnings, write-ups and disciplinary actions.

Ensure all carpentry staff members are productive throughout the course of the workday.

Utilize the University’s E210 and Kronos time keeping systems to accurately complete time and attendance reporting for subordinates.

Must be able to work overtime and respond to emergency calls (24/7).

Additional Skills & Qualifications:

High school diploma/ GED

Must have at least 10 years' experience in the field of electrical maintenance and repair.

Must have a minimum of 5 years' experience in a supervisory role.

Must have experience with the operation of high voltage electrical systems, including switching and parallel operation of electric feeders.

Experience supervising in a union environment is preferred.

Must have knowledge of applicable electrical codes and standards.

Journeyman or Master Electrician License preferred.
