The Department of Epidemiology is looking to hire an Assistant Lecturer to serve as the Director of Graduate Education. The Department is home to nearly 70 doctoral candidates, 35 post-doctoral fellows and has two active Master's programs (ScM and MHS) which collectively include more than 200 students per year. We teach three Epidemiology core course series which are tailored to doctoral and Master's students in epidemiology while also providing a critical service to epidemiology training for students across the school. Additionally, we teach numerous advanced methodology and topical courses across the spectrum of 8 training tracks. The department provides a rich training environment for students that includes journal clubs, research-in progress-meetings, interdisciplinary research seminars and opportunities for community engagement.The Director of Graduate Education is responsible for leading the educational mission of the Department and supervising a team of 10 faculty and staff tasked with implementing and refining the academic activities of the department. The Director of Graduate Education will report to the Vice Chair for Education.The Director of Graduate Education will have a demonstrated background in academic education, project management, leadership, and communication. This is a fast-paced and highly visible position. A high degree of professionalism and credibility is expected, and the Director of Graduate Education must be able to prioritize and multitask based on changing needs and situations. Verbal and written communication skills as well as teamwork skills are critical. This position will perform duties of a sensitive and highly detailed, technical nature, exercising administrative judgment and maintaining responsibility for quality of service and discretion. This position will be the primary interface between the Chair's office and the academic programs of the department and will interact extensively with all key stakeholders in the Department including faculty, staff, and trainees. The position will also interface with leadership of the School of Public Health.Specific responsibilities include:

Supervise and manage the academic office (10 faculty and staff)

With the Assistant Director for Graduate Education, organize and facilitate the teaching of large service classes across the School, smaller departmental classes, and summer/winter institutes

Oversee the training of teaching assistants and the process for assigning teaching assistantships for doctoral and master's students

Develop and implement best practices for course development and evaluation

Oversee and implement Departmental recruitment activities and admissions processes in collaboration with the Department's Academic & Credentials committee and the Vice Chair for Education

Interface with relevant departmental committees (e.g., Admissions & Credentials, Curriculum Committee) as well as Track Directors, Doctoral Program Directors, Master's Program Directors

Interface with external accreditation bodies, Center for Teaching and Learning, School and University stakeholders (e.g., Office of Academic Affairs, Vice Chairs and Deans for Education)

Organize and document efficient processes of the academic office

Lead the collection of relevant process and outcomes including: teaching load of faculty and students, student surveys, admissions statistics, academic offer decline interviews, faculty surveys pertaining to student affairs and finance

Minimum Qualifications

Master's Degree in higher education administration, business or related field

Five years progressively responsible higher education administration and project management experience

Demonstrated experience in managing a complex office

Preferred Qualifications

Doctoral degree

Experience with JHU academic systems such as CoursePlus and SIS
