Description You could become a Controller with a reputable law firm working with Robert Half, if you have a knack for leading with high standards, positively motivating others, and making critical decisions and have experience taking charge of an accounting and clerical department. To succeed in this role, you will need to plan and direct all accounting operational functions, handle the accumulation and consolidation of financial data for internal and external financial statements, evaluate accounting and internal control systems, and lead departmental staff. Candidates who can lead with integrity and reliability and have the ability to manage self and others with urgency, practicality and accountability when providing client services, will be preferred for this position. The permanent Controller position is situated in the Baltimore, Maryland area.Major responsibilities

Manage monthly and annual close of income statement and balance sheet, the reconciliations of accounts, and G/L analysis

Prepare cash-flow reports that project cash needs at weekly and monthly intervals, and handle daily cash management

Flexible in completing tasks beyond formal job responsibilities

Assess, execute and streamline policies, procedures, controls and most methodologies

Advance Finance Department initiatives, such as software and systems implementation and other departmental or firm-wide improvements, as needed, with research, planning and implementation

Lead the operations of the finance department which includes accounts payable, billings & collections, and payroll

Give executive committee and partners monthly financial reports

Manage the creation of and monthly monitoring of the annual budget and forecasts

Analyze deliverables of self and team to confirm they meet client expectations

Work closely with executive team and partners to facilitate efficient and effective firm-wide operation

Ensure timely cash collection by driving the timing for monthly billing and other cash management techniques

CPA/MBA preferred

Sharp, analytical thinking abilities, always seeking to draw connections and identify the "why"

Skilled in the delivery of effective presentations to law firm partners

7+ years of progressive accounting experience, including as a Controller preferred

Previous experience in public accounting is highly valued

Ability to prioritize deals and adapt to quick changes while remaining diligent, and to thrive in a relaxed environment

Strong attention to detail

Ability to complete multiple tasks and projects within deadlines

Seizes opportunities to produce results without direct supervision

Excellent technology, analytics and management experience required

Financial statement preparation experience

Month-end Close Activities experience preferred

Expertise in Aderant

Proficiency in General Accounting

Strong communication skills, both verbally and in writing
