The Department of Anthropology at Johns Hopkins University seeks a scholar at the Assistant Professor level with a focus on Inter-Asian Movements. Applicants should demonstrate interests in aesthetics, language and texts in translation, religious traditions, visual and/or sonic media, ritual and performance, and/or environmental humanities, that are explored through cross-regional linkages and circulations, and deeper strata of history than that of the modern nation-state within the Asian region. The scholar may come from anthropology and historical anthropology, religious studies, museum studies and other fields of humanistic studies. The scholar must be exemplary in showing how inter-regional, interdisciplinary, and conceptually and methodologically ambitious work may be done to transcend scholarly silos and essentialist identities. A Ph.D. is required, but we will accept applications from doctoral students expected to fulfill Ph. D degree requirements by July 1, 2025. Applications should include a cover letter; a CV (5 pages maximum); a statement of research interests (3 pages maximum) and a statement of teaching and service (2 pages maximum); and the names of three referees. All application material should be submitted online via Interfolio by November 24, 2024. Review of applications will begin thereafter and continue until the position is filled. Please get in touch with Dr. Sujung Kim, Chair of the Search, at [email protected] if there are any questions. Job Type: Full Time Johns Hopkins University is committed to active recruitment of a diverse faculty and student body. The University is an Affirmative Action/Equal Opportunity Employer of women, minorities, protected veterans and individuals with disabilities and encourages applications from these and other protected group members. Consistent with the University’s goals of achieving excellence in all areas, we will assess the comprehensive qualifications of each applicant.
