Faculty Positions in Microbiome Research at the Center for Advanced Microbiome Research and Innovation, Institute for Genome Sciences, University of Maryland School of Medicine The newly established Center for Advanced Microbiome Research and Innovation (CAMRI) at the Institute for Genome Sciences (IGS), University of Maryland School of Medicine (UMSOM), invites applications for two faculty positions at the rank of Assistant Professor. Expected rank for this position will be Assistant Professor or higher, however, final rank and tenure status will be commensurate with selected candidate’s experience. We seek candidates with demonstrated expertise in applying multi-omics approaches to elucidate the functional roles of the human microbiome in health and disease. While we especially encourage applicants with research programs focused on cancer, viral infections, or women’s health, we welcome other areas of interest that will complement CAMRI’s dynamic, transdisciplinary and innovative research ecosystem. About CAMRI CAMRI represents a forward-thinking initiative within IGS, aimed at advancing microbiome science to drive transformative discoveries and improve health outcomes. By bridging fundamental research with translational applications, CAMRI serves as a hub for pioneering microbiome studies, with current strengths in women’s and infant health and the development of novel therapeutic interventions. This collaborative center harnesses cutting-edge technology and integrates high-throughput sequencing, advanced computational tools, bioinformatics, and epidemiological approaches to dissect and interpret complex microbiome data. About the Institute for Genome Sciences IGS (www.igs.umaryland.edu) is a multidisciplinary research institute committed to high-impact science that advances global human health. With a collaborative faculty of over 30 investigators, IGS fosters a highly integrative research environment with expertise spanning the human microbiome, host-pathogen interactions, infectious diseases, cancer and population genomics, quantitative and data sciences, and systems biology. Faculty at IGS and CAMRI have access to state-of-the-art genomics resources, including PacBio, Illumina, and Oxford Nanopore sequencing platforms, as well as single-cell and spatial transcriptomics through Maryland Genomics, our high-throughput core laboratory. Faculty also benefit from advanced computational infrastructure and close partnerships with the University of Maryland College Park and the newly formed Institute for Health Computing (www.ihc.umaryland.edu), enhancing opportunities for cross-disciplinary clinical research with the University of Maryland Medical Center. Qualifications The successful candidate will hold a Ph.D., M.D., or M.D./Ph.D. in medical or biological sciences, including immunology and microbiology, chemistry, computational biology, or a related discipline, with a strong background in analyzing and integrating biological systems data. Candidates should demonstrate the potential to establish a funded research program, engage in mentoring and teaching, and contribute to the service missions of CAMRI, IGS and UMSOM. We welcome applicants with research experience in academia, industry, or government who can bring diverse perspectives and expertise to our team. Ideal candidates will align their research programs with CAMRI and IGS’s missions, leveraging federal and non-federal funding sources to support their work and foster collaboration across UMSOM and the broader research community. To Apply: Please apply below and submit a cover letter, curriculum vitae, a description of your research program, and contact information for three references [email protected]. Review of applications will begin immediately and continue until positions are filled.
