System Engineer Level 1 Position Summary DarkStar is in search of a Systems Engineer based in Annapolis Junction, targeting individuals with an active Top Secret/SCI clearance and Counterintelligence Polygraph. This role is critical for ensuring the compatibility of production systems with strategic architectures and requires a professional with a minimum of seven years of relevant experience. The ideal candidate will bring a robust technical expertise, specifically in systems engineering, to contribute to key documentation and the development of innovative capabilities. This position offers the opportunity to engage in complex projects that significantly contribute to national security, within a dynamic and collaborative team environment. Oversee the management of system and derived requirements to ensure the compatibility of production systems with the specified system architectures, such as the Department of Defense Architecture Framework (DoDAF) and Service-oriented Architecture (SOA).

Aid in the creation of sections within systems engineering documentation, including System Engineering Plans, Initial Capabilities Documents, Requirements Specifications, and Interface Control Documents.

Support the development of system and functional requirements, along with their distribution across individual hardware, software, facility, and personnel components.

Facilitate the resolution of action items arising from Configuration Control Board (CCB) meetings, design reviews, program reviews, and test reviews that necessitate interdisciplinary coordination.

Engage in Integrated Product Teams to design new capabilities, considering all necessary development and operational factors.

Assign real-time processing and error budgets to both systems and their component parts.

Create alternative system concepts, physical architectures, and design solutions.

Establish methods, processes, and evaluation criteria for verifying systems, subsystems, and work products against their requirements, as outlined in a written plan.

Formulate system design solutions that meet the requirements and fulfill the functional analysis objectives.

Review and contribute to the program and contract work breakdown structure (WBS), work packages, and the integrated master plan (IMP).

Assist in the production of system engineering documentation like System Engineering Plans, Initial Capabilities Documents, Requirements Specifications, and Interface Control Documents.

Engage in the definition, design, and modification of interfaces, coordinating between affected groups and individuals throughout the product lifecycle.

Interpret system requirements to discern stakeholder needs, functions that are logically derived, and deemed essential for system effectiveness.

Extract lower-level requirements from higher-level allocated ones, detailing the functions that system components must perform, ensuring these are comprehensive, correct, distinct, clear, achievable, and verifiable.

Collaborate in defining and securing approval for the definitions of systems or components under development (requirements, designs, interfaces, test procedures, etc.), which serves as a common reference for hardware and software developers.

Develop derived requirements for Information Assurance Services (including Confidentiality, Integrity, Non-repudiation, Availability), Basic Information Assurance Mechanisms (e.g., Identification, Authentication, Access Control, Accountability), and Security Mechanism Technology (e.g., Passwords, cryptography, access control, hashing, key management).

Minimum Qualifications

Active Top Secret/SCI clearance along with a Counterintelligence Polygraph.

A minimum of seven (7) years of experience as a Systems Engineer (SE) in programs and contracts of similar scope, type, and complexity is essential.

A Bachelor’s degree in System Engineering, Computer Science, Information Systems, Engineering Science, Engineering Management, or a related field from an accredited institution is mandatory.

Alternatively, an additional five (5) years of SE experience may compensate for the absence of a Bachelor’s degree.

Have at least two (2) years of experience in three (3) or more of the following domains:

Administration of Red Hat and Windows Certificate Authority;

Deployment and management of JunOS (+SRX) Ipsec VPN Gateway;

Utilization of Hypori Transport Layer Security (TLS) software application;

Operation of NetApp storage/filing application;

Implementation of VMware Cloud Computing enhanced tools;

Expertise in secure cellular and fixed network software applications.
