Our work depends on a Linux/Unix Engineer joining our team to support Government activities in Sterling, VA or Annapolis Junction, MD.At GDIT, we foster a people-focused and customer-centric environment in delivering Server & Compute Platform Engineering Services. As a Linux/Unix Engineer supporting the Government, you will be responsible for the physical/virtual platforms, server build deployments, configurations, server virtualization, hyperconverged platforms, etc.In this role, a typical day will include:

Employing best practices when implementing patch management / vulnerability management in the Linux construct.

Conducting system security engineering activities (Linux/Unix Focused).

Installing, monitoring, and tuning Linux/Unix Server operating system software and virtual machine sub-system software to obtain ATO (Authorize to Operate) for new image build.

Capturing and refining client requirements. Ensuring that the requirements are effectively integrated into information technology component products and information systems through purposeful designing, developing, and configuration.

Performing research, analysis, and design for all Linux/Unix computing systems including network infrastructure.

Developing, implementing, and documenting formal configuration guides as needed.

Providing security controls and maintaining necessary network/data separation

Ensuring essential services are installed on supported versions of OS and keeping the versions up to date.

What you’ll need:

Active TS/SCI clearance and ability to obtain and maintain a CI poly

DoD 8570 IAT Level II Certification: Security+ CE, CND, SSCP, GSEC, GICSP, CySA+, or CCNA Security.

Education: Bachelor of Science Degree, or a related technical discipline, or the equivalent combination of education, technical certifications or training, or work experience.

Minimum of 12 years relevant experience

Experience with DoD vulnerability analysis and Industry Best Business Practices

Quick learner, able to learn new software and technologies

Must have strong experience with Linux/Unix and Unix shell scripting (5+ years)

Redhat Enterprise Linux (Physical and Virtual (VMware) Environment)

Solaris (Physical and Virtual (VMware) Environment)

Must have strong Redhat Satellite Server and Ansible experience

Experience in standing up new services and tools on virtual machines within a Linux environment.

Experience with Gitlab, Docker, and repo mirrors.

Experience with Python. PowerShell, and Bash scripting.

Familiar with VMware ESXi and VSphere.

Familiar with virtualization network on multiple classifications
