Rewarding job and great on the job experience. This job qualifies as a medical field job for clinical hours for most medical professions.
I am Glenn, a 53 year old who uses a power wheelchair due to having Duchenne Muscular Dystrophy. I require caregivers for all of my personal care and to live my active and independent life. Here are all of my shifts. I need to cover all shifts to build a new team.
Sundays 7:30am-3:30pm and/or 3:30pm-9:30pm
Mondays 7:30am-3:30pm and/or 3:30pm-9:30pm
Tuesdays 7:30am-3:30pm and/or 3:30pm-9:30pm
Wednesdays 7:30am-3:30pm and/or 3:30pm-9:30pm
Thursdays 7:30am-3:30pm and/or 3:30pm-9:30pm
Fridays 7:30am-3:30pm and/or 3:30pm-9:30pm
Saturdays 7:30am-3:30pm and/or 3:30pm-9:30pm
Please note that despite my Muscular Dystrophy I have a very active social life and enjoy going out. I am looking for kind, responsible, flexible, and fun caregivers to provide assistance/drive for me. I treat all of my aides with the utmost respect. I need 2 or 3 caregivers to cover all of my shifts. I have had both female and male caregivers.
This is a stress-free job in a pleasant environment. A ceiling track lift is installed in my house so all of my transfers are safe and straightforward using a u-sling/divided leg sling. I wear a condom catheter with a leg bag during the day for ease of urination, and I use a Bi-Pap machine at night when I sleep. I can easily train caregivers in these tasks as we go along. I am also into 3d Printing and Laser Engravings. I need basic help with this. Fun hobbies!
I need help getting in/out of bed, with toileting, getting dressed/undressed, showering, food preparation, light cleaning, laundry, errands, and an assistant for going out if we go somewhere. To end the shift you will put me to bed. The majority of the work is done in the morning and night. During the day tasks are light, such as laundry as needed, basic safety, water refill, meal prep, etc. Lunch break of 1 to 2 hours is acceptable for 14-hour shifts
On Wednesday Evenings I attend a Men's Group meeting at the local Church I attend. Caregiver can wait in Church lobby or in the van. On Sundays, I attend an 11am service at the same local Church as Wednesdays. I enjoy going out on Sunday evenings for a social outing and to visit with my parents. I may go out other days for groceries or to go out dinner, doctor appoinments, getting mail at my office in Arnold. I have a 2017 Toyota Sienna with an automatic in-floor wheelchair ramp that you will use to drive me places.
The right applicant can be trained as they work. I have needed caregivers for the past 25 years and have a great system for my care.
