Windham, Maine academic book publisher is seeking freelance copy editor to edit and correct final draft submissions from our authors, all of whom are professors in the field of education. Myers Education Press (www.myersedpress.com) publishes library books and textbooks for colleges of education in the United States and around the world. Our rapid growth requires us to expand our roster of freelancers as we add new books to our front list.
Qualified candidates should have experience in copy editing projects with larger page counts (chapter- or book-length works). The majority of our titles are edited according to APA style, but candidates should be familiar with Chicago and MLA styles as well. All copy editing is performed digitally, working from the authors’ Word files. You are expected to copy edit for content and style, assuring that each text reads as well as possible and that they conform to the appropriate style. This includes marking running heads, chapter heads, subheads, notes, references, etc. You are also expected to create and post author queries into the text when necessary. A familiarity with education content is a plus.
This is a remote freelance position, so there is no requirement to come to our office.
Our rate of pay is $1.50 per manuscript page. Assignments range from 100-500 pages. Interested candidates should submit a resume and cover letter. Qualified candidates will be invited to take a copy editing test to determine suitability.
