Education Program Associate

POSITION PURPOSE:

The Education Program Associate leads and supports interdisciplinary and experiential programming for afterschool and group audiences with a special focus in STEM. Reporting to the Education Program Manager, this position is a critical part of the Education and Exhibits Team and works closely with the Visitor Program Team.

POSITION SUMMARY:

● Develop and implement interdisciplinary Afterschool Experiences for youth ages 5-10 of all skills, experience and physical ability levels with a special emphasis on STEM and natural science in particular

● Lead in-house and outreach activities for daycares, schools K-12, rec groups, Girl Scouts, and other groups as needed

● Develop and lead new environmental and watershed focused programs for daily visitors and large visitor theme days

● Utilize best practices in experiential education and interactive museum experiences

● Lead Aquarium and animal programming on weekend shift

● Participate in a culture of reflection and evaluation through peer review and team program design processes

● Support CMTM’s Strategic Plan and Goals through actions as identified by the team and supervisor

● Perform other duties as identified by supervisor, including weekly floor check and covering front desk check-in as needed

● Assist the training of interns, volunteers, and Education Program Assistants

POSITION REQUIREMENTS:

● Experience leading informal education programming

● Experience working with children ages 5-12

● Experience in STEM or teaching STEM, experience in teaching freshwater ecosystem and/or environmental science preferred

● Expertise in child development and/or education preferred

● Expertise in classroom management

● Comfortable speaking and engaging with groups of people of various ages

● Ability to stand for up to two hours at a time

● Ability and comfort working with animals

● Ability to lift up to 25 pounds

● Ability to climb ladders up to 6 feet

● ESOL Level 4+

● Comfortable with e-mail, Google suite, and Microsoft office suite

● Excellent interpersonal skills and the ability to engage in a mature, friendly and positive way with all youth and visitors

SCHEDULE:

20 Hours a week

Monday 8:30-4:30 (June-August) & 9:30-5:30 (Sep-May); Friday 9:30-3:30 (9 AM start when outreaches are booked); Saturday 9:30-3:30

COMPENSATION

$20.88 / hour plus $5,000 annual benefit pay which can be used toward a cafeteria plan of benefits including health insurance (2 options, HSA available), dental insurance, vision insurance, life insurance, short & long-term disability, critical illness insurance, accident insurance, 4013B (retirement) plan contributions, and/or HSA contributions. Benefit pay may also be taken as pay in lieu of benefits.

CMTM has an equitable system of pay that offers a base rate based on position, longevity pay increases over time, merit based raise opportunities, and cost of living base wage updates. This system is designed for equity and as such we do not have the ability to negotiate the compensation listed above.
