Summer Employment Program for Teens & Young Adults w/ Disabilities Maine Medical Center Portland, Scarborough, Westbrook, & Biddeford, ME Part Time

Maine Medical Center Department of Vocational Services' Summer Employment Program is a 6-week supported work experience for young people with disabilities aged 16 – 24. Individuals are placed in a part-time job at Maine Medical Center or Southern Maine Healthcare and receive a competitive hourly wage for their work. Each individual has a job coach that provides support around learning job tasks, communication skills and social skills on the job. Biweekly workshops address work-related topics, and individuals develop a career portfolio through the summer. At the close of the program, participants and their loved ones are invited to a recognition celebration and reception. A written summary of the work experience is provided at the close of the program for reference in employment support planning.

Program Details:

- Eligibility: Age 16 to 24 with a diagnosed disability and/or IEP or 504 plan with a high school or college

- Application Deadline: April 19, 2024

- Individual intake and job placement conducted by certified Employment Specialists

- Nutrition Services

- Supply Chain

- Library

- Laundry

- Customer Service

- Information Technology

- Nursing Units

Dates & Schedule:

- July 1 – August 8, 2024

- Monday – Thursday, 8:30 a.m. – 1:30 p.m. with lunch break

Tuition:

- $5,200

- Limited financial assistance available

Tuition Includes:

- On-site job support provided by trained Job Coaches and Employment Specialists

- Weekly guided self-evaluations of work performance

- Biweekly discussions regarding work-related topics and development of a Career Portfolio

- Individualized assessment report of each participant’s work experience including recommendations

- Program end celebration
