Elderly Woman - Richmond Maine
We are contemplating trying to arrange for a live in helper / assistant / companion for my Mother,
in her home in Richmond. The home is nice and comfortable, it has a few bedrooms & a basement.
She is in her 70's and has stage 4 cancer & advancing dementia.
She is sometimes stubborn, sometimes talkative, she watches a lot of tv & listens to music.
Sometimes the dementia doesn't make it very easy, but she hasn't been physically aggressive.
She needs someone to stay with her, or be available to her, as close to 24/7 as possible.
She needs someone to help her or give her showers, complete bathroom assistance, including hygiene,
to give her scheduled medicines & to prepare breakfast, lunch, dinner & some snacks.
This is essentially palliative / comfort care, we do not require skilled Nursing or CPR, although if possible,
we might ask you try to help her with exercises or massage-type therapy for edema.
We are willing to offer room & board including food & expenses if errands are needed, and we also offer a suitable weekly paycheck. The duties might require running for food, or preparing food, which we'll cover
the expenses for you as well.
We have no knowledge of how long this arrangement can be maintained, or if it will prove practical.
We do know my Mother is in the last stages of her life, she has been hit terribly hard with difficulties over the
past few years, and we're trying to arrange for her to be as comfortable & happy as possible.
Because of all the uncertainties involved, we're pleased to try to make this arrangement something that
works for both my Mother and also for the person who chooses to take the position.
