Full-time Pastry Chef

Maine, Maine 00000 Maine USA

Vacancy caducado!

The Bread + Butter Catering Company is looking for a full-time Pastry Chef to join our team!

ABOUT US:

We are a full-service catering company, with headquarters located in South Portland. We are a somewhat seasonal business, with the height of our season running May-December. We specialize in large feasts focused on local ingredients and high-quality products.

We are an equal opportunity employer and consider all qualified applicants equally regardless of race, color, religion, sex, sexual orientation, gender identity, national origin, veteran status, or disability status.

This is a seasonally flexible position at approx 30 - 40 hrs per week from late spring through the holidays. In the slower season, the pastry demand decreases but there is still a part-time opportunity (approximately 10 - 15 hrs per week, with the potential of more). This position offers an extremely flexible schedule with some weekend work required. This position may also include some cross-over training with our bread-baking program, which may also lead to an opportunity for more hours in the slower season. Unlike a similar role in a restaurant, this position operates out of our commissary kitchen and is not client-facing.

Pay is based on experience and skill. This position is responsible for preparing all of our pastries, desserts, and confections which can vary seasonally. Although there are specific recipes for all of our current offerings, we welcome creativity and customization to the menu.

REQUIRED DUTIES + RESPONSIBILITIES:

Monitors the shared B+B calendar and remains prepared for upcoming dessert + pastry needs

Seeks guidance when/if questions arise surrounding specific menus

Maintains a clean and safe work area at all times

Able to manage time wisely and work independently, according to the needs week to week

Ability to read recipes, measure, and execute our pastries & desserts including breakfast pastries, desserts, and other baked items meeting the standards of our menus.

Ensures that dessert production is coordinated with the event schedule so that quality, temperature, and appearance of food are preserved.

Ensures efficiency in controlling food and labor costs

Assists with receiving, stocking (first in-first out), and inventorying all pastry shop items

Ability to safely operate kitchen equipment including, but not limited to, ovens, stoves, dishwashers, mixers, chef’s knives, baking and measuring tools/equipment/appliances, etc.

Have a basic understanding of common food allergies and cross-contamination issues to ensure guest safety.

Maintain food safety, workstation, and personal cleanliness and sanitation standards as required by the Maine Department of Health and Human Services and OSHA, as well as general maintenance and upkeep of kitchen equipment.

Must be able to manually handle/lift products up to 60 pounds

Must be able to work vertically for an entire shift

MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS:
