TEACHING ASSISTANT (Southern Maine) – Crooked Pines School is seeking a dedicated and enthusiastic Farm and Forest School Teaching Assistant to work with our growing community of young outdoor learners.
The ideal candidate would have patience, creativity, resilience, comfort in Maine weather in all seasons, willingness to grow and be part of a dynamic, collaborative project. This candidate should have passion for nature and self-directed education as well the ability to support the lead teacher in implementing and documenting the learning of homeschooling students. The candidate should have an awareness of the benefits of healthy risk taking, and an understanding of how to mitigate injury through assessment of potential hazards.
Skills / Abilities:
Bachelor’s degree in education, environmental science, outdoor education or a related field
Minimum of 5 years of experience in outdoor education
Experience with farm-based and/or forest school learning
Training in risk assessment and ability to, in conjunction with teachers, create a learning environment that supports healthy risk taking while mitigating risk.
Ability to thrive in a dynamic environment and maintain a positive solution-oriented mindset
Experience in outdoor or environmental education and sustainability. Understanding and passion for self-directed learning, experiential education and the mission of Crooked Pines School
Ability to work with others and support lead teacher with any and all responsibilities
