Hours: 7am-3:30pm Mon-Fri Key Responsibilities & Essential Functions: Basic Husbandry

Learn, practice and demonstrate with guidance basic proficiency in animal care, husbandry, colony maintenance, room maintenance and operations, sanitation, record keeping and relevant information systems, standard operating procedures, and staff request. These duties may be conducted with varying requirements dependent on location such as; standard animal room, ABSL-2, hazardous chemical room, dark rooms, and isolators facilities.

Transports clean and soil supplies through materials airlock.

Progresses from straight transfer (no pups) to cages w/litter, aging, sexing, and weaning. (RAF) Cage changing according to PI staff requests.

Successful and accurate daily Welfare check for proper food, water, bedding and wellbeing. Observe & report with guidance variances from health standard.

Identifies abnormal animals while learning to determine if for Necropsy or Deviant Search.

Performs inventory discard as required.

Room Sanitation

Colony Management/Maintaining Colonies (JMCRS)

o Maintains with guidance appropriate breeding scheme(s), program or area specific

o Manage with guidance breeding rotation (make-up, retirement, non-productive units)

o Maintain accurate and legible cage cards and data input

Packing and Shipping

o Learns to select basic stock strains of mice for sales orders

o Learns how to ship one detail to multiple detail, internal and external sales orders.

o Learns preparation of shipping containers according to packing guidelines.

Information Processing & General Record Keeping

o Performs basic data entry and records i.e. AX, cage cards

Other Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

High School diploma or GED

Ability to be accurate in transcribing/entering/extracting data
