This position performs transportation engineering duties and a wide variety of interesting tasks requiring moderate to complex levels of judgement to assist staff as a member of the Traffic Department team based out of the Region Office in Bangor, Maine.Responsibilities may include, but are not limited to:

Plans and Review Official Business Directional Signs (OBDS) for compliance with state standards and coordinate installation with MaineDOT Sign Crew.

Set up traffic data collection equipment and complete moderately complex traffic speed studies as requested by Region Municipalities and other MaineDOT Departments.

Effectively communicates with Municipalities, Businesses and members of the public to provide moderately complex and technical information in a manner they understand.

Assist with bridge load postings and conduct complex truck classification studies to determine and communicate the potential impact of bridge postings. This work will involve outreach to local municipalities and businesses in the community who could potentially be impacted.

Collect and interpret moderately complex data on existing highway geometry, signage, and pavement markings. Assist with pavement marking layout.

Assist with sight distance reviews at new and existing intersections and driveways.

Assist senior staff with department permitting including Driveway Permits, Highway Opening Permits, and Utility Location Permits.

Assist in developing moderately complex database for existing MaineDOT highway signs.

Conduct site visits of offsite developer improvements on state roadways and exercise moderately complex engineering judgement to ensure compliance with project State standards.

Assist with the review of Traffic Control Plans (TCP) and Detour Plans. Conduct field visits to verify that construction signage is in accordance with approved plans.

Assist with addressing questions with varying levels of complexity, from the public regarding Region 4 Traffic concerns.

This position reports to the Regional Traffic Engineer (RTE) and tasks are assigned from the RTE and senior staff in the Traffic Department.To be minimally qualified for this position candidates must provide evidence of the following experience:Five (5) years of experience in engineering –OR- an Associate Degree in Engineering or a related technical field and three (3) years of experience in engineering -OR- a Bachelors Degree in Engineering or a related technical field and one (1) year of experience in engineering.
