Minimum QualificationsMINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:No experience or training is required.Job ConceptsFunction of Work:To keep building interiors, exteriors, and grounds clean and maintained.Level of Work:Entry.Supervision Received:Close from an employee of higher level.Supervision Exercised:None.Location of Work:Department of Culture, Recreation, and Tourism, Office of State Parks.Job Distinctions:Differs from Custodian by the added responsibility for maintaining the grounds, working the fee station, assisting visitors, and performing general maintenance tasks.Differs from Maintenance Repairer 1 by lack of responsibility for repair and maintenance of equipment and of structural components of buildings.Examples of WorkIncumbent of this position will serve as support for the Indian Creek Recreation Area, owned and operated by the Department of Agriculture & Forestry. This recreation area is visited annually by over 300,000 people for its recreational facilities such as camping, boating, hiking, picnicking and swimming. This position will require incumbent to work on a flexible schedule to assist with peak attendance and special events.90% - Responsible for assisting with grounds maintenance.These duties include, but are not limited to:

Mowing and trimming grounds of recreation area

Picks up trash and fallen limbs from trees prior to mowing

Weeds flower beds

Cleans camping pads with blower

Maintains cleanliness of all bathrooms, beach areas, camping sites, and recreation area

Reports to supervisor any noted repairs/maintenance needed to buildings on recreation grounds

During assigned shift, may provide oversight and direction to offender labor who are assigned to Indian Creek

10% - Performs duties related to the fee station. These duties include, but are not limited to:

Assisting with reservations and/or reservation system

Checking in patrons, collecting fees and explaining the rules and regulations of the recreation area

Checking out patrons at the end of their stay

Distributes tickets (day passes) for visitors and campers

Closes out the register at the end of the day; ensures monies are secure

Answers questions over the telephone from the general public

Attends to the needs of visitors such as answering questions related to the recreation area, reporting any concerns they may have, etc.

Other duties as may be required.

Must have a valid driver's license.

Must be able to successfully pass a background check and meet requirements to obtain/possess law enforcement commission in order to supervise offender labor provided by the Rapides Parish Sheriff's Office.

Functional Requirements:

Moderate light lifting, 30 pounds with occasional lifting of up to 50 pounds

Walking and standing (8 hours)

Climbing stairs and occasionally ladders

Occasional bending or kneeling

Occasional demands maybe required for moderately strenuous activities in emergencies over long periods of time

Working with or operating lawn equipment, hand and power tools

Commissioned by local authority to transport and supervise inmates

Operating and climbing on and off transport, tractor or ATV

Environmental Factors:

Occasional excessive heat and humidity

Working indoors and outdoors

Occasionally working in moderately cold temperatures for short periods of time

Frequently required to wear appropriate safety protection

Exposed to grain dust, bad odors from farm animals, chemicals, fertilizers and other agricultural materials

Will be required to wear appropriate safety protection/clothing
