For further information about this vacancy contact: Marisa PageGreater Baton Rouge Port [email protected](225)342-1660Minimum QualificationsMINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:No experience or training is required.NOTE:May be required to possess a valid Louisiana driver's license or commercial driver's license.Job ConceptsFUNCTION OF WORK:To assist in the repair and maintenance of Port office buildings, properties, facilities, docks, railroads, transit sheds, grounds, and appliances and to become familiarized with the operation and maintenance of mobile equipment used in these maintenance operations.LEVEL OF WORK:Entry.SUPERVISION RECEIVED:Direct from Port Facility Maintenance Foreman.SUPERVISION EXERCISED:None.LOCATION OF WORK:May be used by all Port Authorities.JOB DISTINCTIONS:Differs from Port Facility Maintenance Specialist 2 by the absence of sufficient knowledge and skill to operate equipment and machinery and ability to perform maintenance tasks.Examples of WorkEXAMPLES BELOW ARE A BRIEF SAMPLE OF COMMON DUTIES ASSOCIATED WITH THIS JOB TITLE. NOT ALL POSSIBLE TASKS ARE INCLUDED. Becomes skilled in the operation of equipment used at the Port's facilities, such as dump trucks, bush hog tractor, forklifts, dozers, belts, stackers, conveyors, and front-end loaders used in the maintenance of the Port's office buildings, properties, facilities, docks, railroads, transit sheds, and grounds. Assists in pulling and installing crossties and repairing railroad tracks when needed. Assists in re-railing railcars that have derailed. Required to work around waterfront including cargo-handling areas where ships are being loaded and railcars and trucks are being unloaded. Makes minor repairs to equipment and performs user maintenance necessary to keep equipment in clean, good working order. Assists in tasks such as grass cutting, shoveling, minor carpentry, welding, or plumbing repairs and general upkeep of the grounds and facility.
