We are a growing mid-sized law firm based in Kenner, LA. We specialize in five legal aspects which include Personal Injury, Immigration, Worker's Compensation, Family, and Criminal law. We are currently seeking a part- time Law Clerk for our Immigration Department in the Kenner, LA location. A candidate who speaks, reads, and writes English/Spanish fluently is a plus. This is a part time position based on class schedule.

A Law Clerk supports attorneys by assembling and organizing information for legal documents; researching law; assembling case material; writing reports and memoranda. A law clerk must be a current law school student or have received their Juris Doctorate.

Duties and Responsibilities include:

Research and analyze law sources to prepare drafts of briefs or arguments for review, approval, and use by attorney;

Review briefs submitted by the parties;

Verify cited legal authority;

Draft a variety of legal documents including trial briefs, memoranda, and orders;

Research and analyze complex legal issues in civil and criminal issues;

Educate and advise the attorneys on the facts and legal issues of a case within the office;

Research and write memoranda;

Draft concise, well-researched memoranda and other legal documents;

Keep abreast of changes in law;

Review complaints, petitions, motions, and pleading;

Answer phones, scanning, copying, printing, faxing, and any other duties as assigned.

Qualifications include:

Law student or new graduate from law school;

Advanced knowledge in client confidentiality, client contact, legal administration, legal compliance, litigation, administrative writing, documentation, word processing, scheduling, verbal communication, and client relations;

In depth knowledge of legal procedures;

Ability to understand complex legal documents;

Ability to derive appropriate conclusions from cases presented and highlight key points;

Should possess competent written and verbal communication skills ;

Exercise good analytical and problem solving skills;

Needs to be Bilingual in English and Spanish,

Ability to solve critical problems related to a case;

Must have knowledge of legal jargon and courtroom procedures.

Working conditions and Physical Requirements

The Law Clerk will work in an office environment in a cubical or office. May be required to lift up to 25 lbs. This position requires extensive hours sitting at a desk.
