SummaryAbout the Position:As a Crane Operator for the New Orleans operations division, you will utilize your skills to perform crane and engineering equipment operating duties in connection with the operation, maintenance and repair of organizational structures. The normal work schedule is 40 hours a week (4 - 10's) Monday thru Thursday, but depending on the mission, a considerable amount of overtime is possible or required, but not guaranteed.ResponsibilitiesOperates Friction Crawler Cranes on Barges from 30-100 ton capacity with various size buckets or loads with various length booms.Converts crane to pile driver and drives piling for mooring clusters, guide walls and wharves.Converts crane to a clamshell and excavates mud and sand from difficult areas. Use crane as dragline and handles rocks from barge to dikes, revetments and scour protection areas.Dewatering at lock and dams sites, works from confined areas setting bulkheads, dewatering pumps, culvert valves and culvert tracks.Inspects rigging prior to making assigned lifts.Required to do preventive maintenance.RequirementsConditions of EmploymentQualificationsWho May Apply: Only applicants who meet one of the employment authority categories below are eligible to apply for this job. Minimum Qualifications (Screen Out Element): Ability to do the work of a(n) CRANE OPERATOR without more than normal supervision. Ability to perform common duties of a Crane Operator which includes performing preventative maintenance on mobile cranes (or equivalent experience). -Failure to meet this Screen Out Element will result in an ineligible rating. Ability To Do The Work Of The Position Without More Than Normal Supervision (Screen-out Element)Ability to Drive Safely (Motor Vehicles) and Ability to Operate Safely (Non-Motor Vehicle)Ability To Interpret Instructions, Specifications, etc. (related to mobile equipment operation)Operation of Motor VehiclesWork Practices (includes keeping things neat, clean, and in order) Physical Effort: Exerts heavy effort in manipulating various levers, clutches, and brakes. Is subject to strain caused by crane vibrations and from jerking and jolting motions while lifting and moving loads. Occasionally moves objects such as hooks and cables weighing up to 50 pounds. Must make continual control changes to maneuver crane and load around obstructions and to position load or equipment at a precise location. Working Conditions: Work is performed in a partially enclosed crane cab during periods of extreme heat and cold. Incumbent is exposed to unpleasant noise, heat, and fumes produced by the crane engine and are exposed to possible injury caused by swinging loads, or from the crane overturning.EducationAdditional InformationMale applicants born after December 31, 1959, must complete a Pre-Employment Certification Statement for Selective Service Registration. You will be required to provide proof of U.S. Citizenship. Two year trial/probationary period may be required. Appointment is subject to the completion of a favorable suitability or fitness determination, as determined by a background investigation. Direct deposit of pay is required.
