Supplemental Information62/12037/MSB/10.01.24-TR MECHANIC SUPERVISOR B - HAMMOND, LA- District 62 ABOUT THIS POSITION: The primary purpose of this position is to supervise the overall operation of the heavy equipment repair shop that includes a lowboy driver, master welder, mechanic body repairer, two road mechanics, and four master mechanics. This position is located in District 62, Unit 71, and reports directly to the equipment superintendent. This position is responsible for coordinating maintenance and service repairs with master mechanics, road mechanics, equipment transport, welding and fabrication, and body repair to provide maximum service at minimum cost. SUBSTITUTIONS: Training as a mechanic from a trade school, vocational-technical school, or military school will substitute for a maximum of two years of the required experience. SUPERVISION RECEIVED: Direct from an Equipment Superintendent or higher level personnel. SUPERVISION EXERCISED: Typically, direct over Mechanic Supervisors. May supervise lower level personnel. LOCATION OF WORK: May be used by all state agencies. JOB DISTINCTIONS: Differs from Mechanic Supervisor A by the presence of responsibilities as defined by the SCS allocation criteria memo. Differs from Equipment Superintendent by the absence of managerial responsibility over a large comprehensive vehicle maintenance program. See SCS allocation criteria memo. Examples of WorkEXAMPLES BELOW ARE A BRIEF SAMPLE OF COMMON DUTIES ASSOCIATED WITH THIS JOB TITLE. NOT ALL POSSIBLE TASKS ARE INCLUDED. Typically supervises personnel in a large shop engaged in the repair of a wide range of vehicles, heavy mobile maintenance and/or construction equipment. Assigns work to mechanics and other shop personnel. Inspects repair work in progress and upon completion. Evaluates work performance of subordinates. Updates cost and time records for repair activities. Supervises preparation of repair orders, equipment records, requisitions, etc. Researches and makes recommendations with regard to replacement or substitute parts. May prepare and monitor annual maintenance budget.
