This advanced level position performs duties related to the complete installation and maintenance of highway signs throughout the District, serving as the technical expert over assigned District Sign Crew. This position is located in District 58 within a district-wide unit under direct supervision from a Highway Foreman 2 and has functional supervision over District Sign Specialist 1 and/or District Sign Specialist 2 positions. The incumbent must be self-motivated and be able to perform duties many times with or without minimal supervision and also be able to interpret unforeseen conditions as they may arise. Directs the sequence of work and assigns tasks to lower level District Sign Specialists. Provides guidance and oversees the work of lower level District Sign Specialists. Aids and assists in lane closures, road closures, and detours. Maintains electronic daily work reports, material used reports, truck inventory, and sign shop inventory. Performs and inspects sign installation, replacement, and maintenance on state highways in accordance with the federal guidelines. This includes highway signing, construction signing, road closure signing, barricading, and other permanent and temporary signing. Determines exact placement requirements for speed zones, weight limits, and other regulatory signing by interpreting legal orders establishing these regulations. Operates and maintains all equipment to perform duties, including sign truck and small tools.
