Supplemental InformationVACANCY INFORMATION: This position may be filled by promotion of a current Department of Wildlife and Fisheries, Office of the Secretary/Enforcement permanent employee.This posting is for 2 positions: one for the Southern Region and the other for the Northern Region. SUPPLEMENTAL INFORMATIONThe Louisiana Department of Wildlife and Fisheries is responsible for managing and protecting the state's renewable natural resources, including all wildlife and aquatic life. EXAMPLES OF ESSENTIAL DUTIES:
Monitors, reviews, analyzes and assists in coordinating the implementation and enforcement of all state and federal laws relative to the management, protection, conservation of wildlife and fisheries resources of the state and the implementation and enforcement of the boating laws of the state
Coordinates law enforcement activities of the state's boating theft and boating incidents, including coordination with regions and special enforcement units with facets of surveillance, interrogation, investigation, apprehension and arrest of violators of state and federal law of regulatory activities within the administrative enforcement support program of boating laws, boating theft, and boating accident investigations and other wildlife and fisheries enforcement activities
Coordinates complex multi-state criminal investigations of state and federal violations and coordinates with other enforcement agencies on state and federal enforcement activities
Provides instruction to classes on wildlife and fisheries laws and regulations at the accredited Wildlife and Fisheries Law Enforcement Training Academy and conducts in-service field training on new legislation and law implementation statewide
Assists in development and implementation of policies and procedures for enforcement division
Assists and coordinates development of long-range programs, plans, and strategic plans
Reviews state and federal offense reports for completeness of information and to insure validity of criminal and civil cases
Responsible for personnel management, including recommendations for hiring, promotions, annual merit increases, performance reviews, approval of leave requests, and disciplinary actions

Minimum QualificationsMINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS: Eight years of experience in wildlife conservation law enforcement in the Enforcement Division of the Louisiana Department of Wildlife and Fisheries. One year of this experience must have been as a Wildlife Enforcement Captain in state service. NECESSARY SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS: Must possess a valid Louisiana driver’s license at time of appointment. Active Police Officers Standard of Training (POST) certification and current annual training requirements. Qualified to be an ex officio notary public. An applicant who has been convicted of a misdemeanor crime of domestic violence or a felony, or who is under indictment on a felony charge will be disqualified until relief from the disabilities imposed by the State and Federal laws is granted. NOTE: This job has special physical requirements in that the incumbent must lift heavy objects (50 lbs. or more), walk long distances, work in harsh weather conditions, fire handguns, rifles, and shotguns accurately and have the ability to operate vehicles, boats, and all-terrain vehicles while in the performance of duties.
