Survey Technician 1st Class or 2nd ClassDate: Mar 26, 2024Location: Baton Rouge, Louisiana, United StatesCompany: EntergyPosting End Date:Work Place Flexibility: OnsiteLegal Entity:As a safety sensitive position, compliance with Department of Transportation (DOT) and Pipeline & Hazardous Materials Safety Administration (PHMSA) drug and alcohol regulations is required, including but not limited to pre-employment drug testing and background screening.SURVEY TECHNICIAN 1ST CLASS - SURVEY TECHNICIAN 2ND CLASS This position can be filled as a Survey Tech 1st or 2nd class depending on qualifications Entergy has entered into an agreement to sell its Louisiana gas distribution business to Bernhard Capital Partners.The sale is expected to close in approximately the third quarter of 2025.Entergy has no planned reduction in workforce as a result of this sale, and intends to operate the business as usual prior to the sale.A. JOB QUALIFICATIONS:Under Class C supervision, with some latitude for planning or laying out of working details, must be able to perform technical work in the field or office, requiring the knowledge of valve, leak and atmospheric corrosion survey of above and underground company facilities and be able to qualify to do the following and related work as assigned:

Conduct gas leakage surveys using instruments approved by Company.

Conduct atmospheric corrosion surveys

Conduct valve survey inspections on gas primary and secondary valves

Operate and maintain instruments used in corrosion control, valve survey, and leak survey related work.

Measure pipe to soil potentials

Keep necessary records and make reports pertaining to leakage and corrosion control and valve inspections.

Perform general maintenance including but not limited to tightening fittings or applying tape for above ground meter set leaks

Direct work of assistants, instruct and train new employees.

Respond to emergency gas situations taking control of the scene, establishing safety perimeter and evacuation zone, determine procedure and perform safe gas shutdown.

Work closely with state, parish, city, other utilities, and contractors to ensure proper and safe excavation practices are performed around gas facilities.

Conduct surveys of system to determine the effectiveness of the corrosion control.

Understand Company construction practices and maintenance procedures.

Understand the theory of cathodic protection

Operate Company trucks, automobiles and machinery.

Demonstrate the required knowledge, skills and abilities on specific covered task of the position for the purpose of complying with Department of Transportation, Pipeline Hazardous Material Safety Administration.

SURVEY TECHNICIAN 2ND CLASSB. EXPERIENCE AND SPECIAL QUALIFICATIONS:

Must have worked for at least two years, and qualified, as an Apprentice - Gas Department, or have had equivalent experience in related work, having all qualifications of the previous classifications.

Maintain automobile and truck driver's license, TWIC card or other applicable required license, background check, or ID.

Have a working knowledge of gas distribution system.

Know city streets and roads in rural sections.

Have a thorough knowledge of the layout and characteristics of the distribution system, services and meters.

Have a thorough knowledge of material and use of tools and equipment.

Be thoroughly familiar with Company's service policies and their application.

Understand the basic theory of gas combustion and have a practical knowledge of the fundamentals involved in gas burning equipment, meters and regulators.

Have a practical knowledge of operating and maintenance practices.

Know companies safety rules, and approved methods of resuscitation, and be able to render practical first aid.

Know the location of, and be able to operate, all of the firefighting equipment. Know what kind of equipment to use on electrical, oil, gas, and other fires.

Must have the ability to acquire and maintain skills required as technology evolves (examples such as, accessing electronic mapping information, collecting and interpreting electronic pipe locating and leak detection information.)

SURVEY TECHNICIAN 1ST CLASSB. EXPERIENCE AND SPECIAL QUALIFICATIONS:

Ability to detect presence of natural gas.

Must have full use of mental and physical faculties.

Have strength and endurance adequate for arduous labor as circumstances may require.

Be particularly alert in observing hazards, abnormal operating conditions, and avoiding accidents.

Be willing to work under unusual surroundings, as well as the normal working conditions pertaining to this job.
