Supplemental InformationThe Louisiana Department of Revenue (LDR) is responsible for fairly and efficiently collecting state tax revenues to fund public services, to regulate charitable gaming and the sale of alcoholic beverage and tobacco, and to support state agencies in the collection of overdue debts. Collectively, each program, unit, division and group work together to provide the core services to taxpayers of the State of Louisiana and stakeholders of the agency. LDR is comprised of the following groups: Tax Collection, Charitable Gaming, Alcohol and Tobacco Control (ATC), Debt Recovery, and Louisiana Tax Free Shopping Commission. The Criminal Investigations Division (CID) is LDR'S primary criminal tax enforcement unit. Its function is to review alleged violations of the tax laws, to investigate those violations, and to recommend criminal prosecutions as warranted. CID also investigates alleged criminal violations and serious misconduct by LDR employees. In carrying out its role to identify willful noncompliance with the state's tax laws, CID relies on referrals from other divisions, as well as information from other governmental agencies and the public. CID is also responsible for detecting and preventing fraudulent activity within the state's integrated software for return and payment processing. The incumbent of this position serves as the division's technical specialist for fraud detection and prevention, system testing and data analytics as well as a lead worker for the TRIP unit. This vacancy will be filled by a current classified employee of the Louisiana Department of Revenue. ABOUT THIS POSITION:

Review returns in DELTA system for fraudulent activity and remove fraudulent returns from system to prevent the issuance of invalid refunds.

Review potential tax fraud leads from bankruptcy trustee, Department of Justice and other LDR divisions.

Review and assist taxpayers with identity theft issues regarding their personal income or business tax account with LDR.

Analyze taxpayer accounts from correspondence cases and work items subject to fraud review.

Apply knowledge of tax laws, regulations, and departmental policies to adjust taxpayer accounts, initiate assessments, and approve or deny refunds where appropriate.

Compile data for Annual Paid Preparer Review of unscrupulous paid tax preparers for issuance of cease and desist orders, assessment of paid preparer penalties or referral for enjoinment.
