A baccalaureate degree with twenty-four semester hours in one or a combination of the following: accounting, auditing, business, finance, management, economics, quantitative methods, or information systems plus three years of professional-level experience in accounting, financial auditing, operational auditing, or compliance auditing.

Possession of a current certified public accountant (CPA) license, Certified Fraud Examiner (CFE), or certified internal auditor (CIA) designation.

SUBSTITUTIONS:A master's degree with a major in accounting, auditing, business administration, finance, management, economics, quantitative methods, public administration or information systems and decision science will substitute for the twenty-four semester hours of required coursework plus one year of the required experience.NOTE: Any college hours or degree must be from an accredited college or university.Job ConceptsFUNCTION OF WORK:To serve as the head auditor for an internal audit program.LEVEL OF WORK:Program Manager.SUPERVISION RECEIVED:Typically from the head of agency or his/her designee.SUPERVISION EXERCISED:Project and functional over agency personnel as needed to fulfill the internal audit mission.LOCATION OF WORK:May be used by all state agencies.JOB DISTINCTIONS:Differs from Auditor 4 by the presence of having full responsibility for managing the internal auditing program of a department.Differs from Audit Manager by the absence of management duties over an audit division comprised of multiple subordinates.Examples of WorkEXAMPLES LISTED BELOW INCLUDE BRIEF SAMPLES OF COMMON DUTIES ASSOCIATED WITH THIS JOB TITLE. PLEASE NOTE THAT NOT ALL TASKS ARE INCLUDED.Manages all aspects of an agency's internal audit program, including developing an internal audit charter, the annual assessment of risks, and annual audit plans.On a continuing basis, evaluates internal control structures to include data processing controls, both general and application.Provide a tracking system to follow-up on all findings of internal and external audits.May perform performance, compliance, and operational audits of agency programs.
