Summary The Motor Vehicle Operator in Nutrition & Food Services (NFS) has the primary purpose to transport food and supplies back and forth from patient care areas and kitchen to Building 4. Responsibilities Keeps the vehicle clean in accordance with VA standards: he/she sweeps and washes vehicle, both inside and out. Puts gasoline, water and oil in truck as needed. Reports any needs for truck repair to immediate supervisor. During periods when not operating the vehicle, performs a wide variety of cook/food service worker tasks in the food production area and food service areas throughout the medical center. Drive at the loading/unloading points at the designated times. Follow established time schedule in delivery of trays as meals must be served to the patients as scheduled times to allow other hospital functions to operate smoothly. Soiled trays must be returned promptly to enable dishwashing schedule to be met. Must have in possession, at all times, the appropriate Class D driver's license. Follows a scheduled route, approximately 1/4 to 1/4 mile between buildings. Maneuvers the truck into position for loading and unloading. Load the delivery tray carts, each holding 20 trays and weighing up to approximately 1,000 pounds, depending on the type of cart in use. Secures each delivery cart inside the truck so that there is neither spillage of foods nor damage of equipment. Makes several trips daily in order to deliver meal service to patients in a 52 bed medical/surgical unit, 82 bed psychiatry unit, and 180 bed NHCU Returns all soiled trays to building 4. Follow established time schedule in delivery of trays. Driver's License Requirement: Must posses a valid, state-issued driver's license to operate a motor vehicle. Work Schedule: Full-Time, 5:00am to 1:30pm OR 10:30am to 7:00pm, Sunday to Saturday, subject to change based on the needs of the facility. Physical Requirements/Working Conditions: Considerable physical effort and dexterity is required while driving and maneuvering at the loading/unloading points. Incumbent must have good coordination in the use of his/her eyes, hands and feet. The employee is subject to exposure to the elements and to a constant exposure to traffic hazards.
