Position OverviewThe 14-day in-house notice is incorporated in this job announcement.This recruitment is limited to the first 150 qualified applications and will close to the public without notice while still accepting applications from internal employees. Candidates interested in receiving consideration for both the Full-Time and Part-Time vacancies for Law Enforcement Support Specialist must apply for each position separately via the respective job bulletin. The City of Henderson announces an examination to create an eligibility list for the classification of Law Enforcement Support Specialist i n the Police Department. The eligibility list may be utilized to fill vacancies for this classification for up to six (6) months or up to one (1) year, depending on employment status .Under general supervision, performs specialized clerical work of routine difficulty in support of the Police Department; and performs related duties as assigned. NOTE TO CURRENT EMPLOYEES:

Pursuant to the Teamsters collective bargaining agreement, full-time non-probationary employees successfully completing the assessment process will be placed on an eligibility list to be used to fill vacancies in this classification for up to six (6) months.

The City of Henderson may elect to test probationary full-time, part-time, and temporary employees who meet the minimum qualifications if there are an insufficient number of full-time non-probationary employees who meet the minimum qualifications or successfully pass the assessment process, or if there are a large number of vacancies or anticipated vacancies in the classification. Probationary full-time, part-time, and temporary employees who successfully complete the testing process will be placed on a separate list which may be utilized for up to one (1) year. If the vacancy is not filled by full-time non-probationary employees as outlined in the Teamsters contract, this separate list may be utilized.

Graduation from high school, or equivalent.

Three (3) years of full-time experience performing responsible clerical duties involving contact with the public and providing extensive customer service.

Proficiency in keyboarding sufficient to type 45 net words per minute.

Must pass a nationwide fingerprint-based record check, and a wants/warrants check.

Must complete Security Awareness and National Crime Information Center (NCIC)/Nevada Criminal Justice Information System (NCJIS) certification within six months of hire/transfer and be recertified every two years. Must maintain certifications in NCIC/NCJIS as a condition of continued employment.

Desirable: Two (2) years of full-time clerical experience in a legal setting or criminal justice agency.

Desirable: College coursework in criminal justice.

Desirable: Bi-lingual proficiency in verbal and written communications.

Candidates will be required to complete an online typing test to verify that they meet the minimum typing requirements listed in the job description. All candidates will be sent an email with a link to the typing test. This test must be completed by the date/time listed in the notice/invite. Candidates who successfully complete the online typing test will be eligible to move to the next step of the assessment process (based on typing a minimum of 45 net words per minute.) Candidates who do not initially receive a typing score of 45 net WPM or higher will not be eligible to move forward in the recruitment. Candidates will be required to pass the typing portion of the written examination based on the number of net words per minute (WPM) listed in the minimum qualifications. There are free practice typing tests online if you would like to gauge your speed and practice prior to the assessment date. However, you must pass the test we administer, and we will utilize the score you receive from our exam.
