Position OverviewThe City of Henderson announces an examination to create a consideration for hire list to fill multiple part-time vacancies for the classification of Fire Services Assistant (Part-Time) with the Henderson Fire Department. The consideration for hire list may be utilized to fill vacancies for this classification for up to one (1) year.Under immediate supervision, performs a variety of routine tasks while assisting in the administration, training, or logistics areas of the Fire Department; and performs related duties as assigned.Position Information:

This list may be utilized to fill future vacancies for both non-PERS eligible and PERS eligible positions. Information pertaining to the PERS status will be communicated to candidates during the interview process.

This position does not qualify for employer-paid benefits, wage increases, or union representation.

Work schedule will consist of an average of 19 hours/week if selected for a part-time vacancy, and 29 hours/week if selected for a part-time, PERS-eligible vacancy. Hours per week may increase or decrease based on Department's need.

Essential Functions:When supporting the Logistics Division:

Assists in inventorying department equipment and supplies; accepts deliveries from vendors and freight companies; and verifies and checks orders for completeness.

Assists with organizing and stocking shelves; rotates stock; and removes outdated equipment and supplies.

Assists with special projects such as preparing for fire trainings and academies, participating in basic research projects, and other projects as assigned.

Assists with routine maintenance of Fire Department facilities, grounds, and equipment.

Utilizes a department vehicle to make pickups and deliveries throughout Fire Department offices and facilities.

When supporting the Emergency Medical Services Division:

Utilizes inventory management system to track Schedule II narcotics, including receipt from the manufacturer.

Retrieves used narcotics kits from stations, re-stocks, and deliveries supplies to fire stations throughout the city.

The selected candidate will spend time working in a traditional office setting and will also be expected to operate a city fleet vehicle to deliver medications to the various stations as directed by the department.

Graduation from high school, or the equivalent

Any training and/or experience that has provided the knowledge, skills, and abilities required to perform satisfactorily on the job

Possess and maintain a valid Nevada or “border state” driver’s license, as defined by NRS 483

Desirable: Enrollment in an accredited fire science program or fire science related classes
