Location: Bowling Green, KY Category: Staff Posted On: Wed Mar 26 2025 Job Description: The Carol Martin Gatton Academy of Mathematics and Science in Kentucky seeks qualified candidates for the position of Admissions Counselor. The Gatton Academy is a public residential STEM program established and funded by the Kentucky legislature. It is located on the campus of Western Kentucky University. Students complete their last two years of high school in the program while earning at least 60 hours of college credit. This is a 10-month, part-time position that reports to the Assistant Director of Admissions and Public Relations. This regional position serves central and southeastern Kentucky. Gatton staff are employees of WKU.Primary Duties and Responsibilities

Support Gatton Academy admissions processes to recruit, admit, and enroll a diverse student body.

Build relationships with high school and middle school administrators and counselors throughout central and southeastern Kentucky to facilitate open communication regarding prospective students.

Represent The Gatton Academy at recruitment events such as information sessions, school visits, and conference exhibits.

Manage a complex schedule with frequent evening events and extensive travel.

Essential FunctionsRecruitment

Schedule, advertise, and conduct Gatton Academy information sessions at schools and community centers throughout northern and eastern Kentucky.

Drop off materials and briefly meet with counselors at every high school and middle school in northern and eastern Kentucky annually.

Connect with prospective students through social media, phone, and email to answer questions and provide information in a timely manner.

Maintain positive relationships with stakeholders, educators, and leaders throughout Kentucky.

Represent The Gatton Academy as an exhibitor at a wide range of events, such as student competitions, college and career fairs, and educator meetings and conferences.

Administrative or Managerial Functions

Collect and input prospective student contact information into a Gatton database.

Stay current on Gatton Academy events, highlights, and points of pride.

Create reports on school visits, event attendance, and contact data.

Assist the Assistant Director of Admissions and Public Relations with processing and reviewing admissions applications.

Attend monthly staff meetings and Gatton Academy special events, such as Orientation Day.

Perform other duties as assigned.

Essential Knowledge and Skills

Excellent verbal and written communication skills, as well as presentation skills.

Ability to handle difficult situations with tact and diplomacy.

Self-motivation and ability to work independently with limited direct supervision.

Ability to build effective relationships in keeping with the Gatton's Creed of Integrity, Compassion, and Respect.

Excellent organizational skills.

Job Requirements:

Bachelor's Degree.

Public speaking experience and excellent presentation skills.

Willing to work a variable schedule that includes evening hours and weekends.

Willing to travel to various areas across the state for recruitment weekly and to Bowling Green monthly.

Be at least 21 years of age and hold a valid driver's license.

Willing to submit to a state and national criminal history background check.

Compensation and Benefits

10-month, part-time position (20-25 hours/week)

Professional development within Gatton and the University at-large.

$20/hr - benefits include partial University tuition waiver.
