Topeka, Kansas, by hiring a

Director of Information Technology for a full-time, direct placement engagement. An overview of the role and requirements follows: Oversees Information Technology software development, including (1) development and delivery of software applications/systems within an Agile software development environment; (2) directing alignment of software architecture, data architecture, and shared services, including test automation to meet the strategic needs; (3) establishing best practices to guide business technology and architectural staff with design, development, configuration, integration, deployment, and maintenance of IT-supported software applications or systems; and (4) effectively manage within the framework of company’s policies and procedures, with accountability for all business technology. The Director of Business Technology is responsible for staff development of business technology and architectural staff to ensure ongoing skill development.

Responsibilities:
  • Provide leadership and supervision to direct reports to ensure all software development, shared services, and architectural initiatives comply with the standards established by the Company, meet user expectations, and remain consistent with the company’s strategic objectives.
  • Provide leadership and direction for implementing data management strategies that support the enablement of technologies for self-service data analytics.
  • Review and analyze existing application effectiveness and efficiency and develop strategies to improve or leverage these systems.
  • Recruit, develop, retain, and organize business technology, shared services, and architecture staff for maximum efficiency and effectiveness per Company strategic and budgetary objectives and personnel policies. Mentor and develop direct reports. Provide leadership to direct reports in a manner that supports the Company’s mission, values, and culture.
  • Work closely with the Director of PMO, IT Agile Process Manager, Director of IT Infrastructure and Operations, Director of Information Security, and Director of IT Governance to ensure a cohesive culture, efficient, and effective processes regarding project planning, estimating, developing, testing, production delivery, monitoring, and strong compliance with regulations and policies.
  • Assist in the development and implementation of IT strategic plans, policies, and procedures.
  • Monitor and report on department initiatives, activities, and related issues.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Expectations:
  • Establish department goals, objectives, and operating procedures consistent with the company’s strategic objectives.
  • Provide direction and guidance in business technology best practices, design, development, configuration, integration, automated testing, deployment, and maintenance of information and software systems, including data management infrastructure and technologies.
  • Ensure each project's technical solution meets business requirements, architectural objectives, and business goals.
  • Research and make recommendations on software products and services to support procurement and development efforts.
  • Provide strategic input on the future direction of applications and information technology.
  • Assist with feasibility analysis for software and system products under consideration for purchase or in-house development.
  • Assist with creating, implementing, and maintaining application deployment procedures and processes.
  • Provide direction for production support and troubleshooting on all systems.
  • Provide oversight and reports to senior management on department issues related to staffing, projects, operational activities, and support, vendor management, and technology budget status.
  • Protect business records created or used in business processes to ensure availability, confidentiality, integrity, and the retention and destruction as specified by relevant policies.
  • Ability to handle multiple tasks simultaneously, solve problems, memory for details, prioritize, and maintain concentrated mental and visual attention for sustained periods.
  • Demonstrate a commitment to diversity, equity, and inclusion (DEI) by taking actions consistent with Company’s DEI program. Provides reporting to the Office of Minority and Women Inclusion (OMWI), as needed, and partners with OMWI to implement effective policies and procedures that incorporate DEI into business activities.

Knowledge and Skills: Experience: Senior level of competency with at least ten years of similar or related professional experience. Education: Bachelor’s degree or equivalent work experience. Interpersonal Skills: The ability to motivate or influence others is a material part of the job, requiring a significant level of diplomacy and trust. Obtaining cooperation (internally and/or externally) is an important part of the job.

Other Skills:
  • Minimum of ten years of continuous IT and business work experience, including experience managing multiple, medium to large, cross-functional teams or projects and influencing senior management and key stakeholders.
  • Combination of 8+ years of hands-on development experience in a full-lifecycle software development organization.
  • Proven experience in overseeing software solutions' direction, development, and implementation.
  • Advanced understanding of database design, programming concepts, and web development are required.
  • Ability to communicate ideas in both technical and user-friendly language.
  • Prefer two or more years of experience with Agile development methodologies.
  • Must be able to work and travel independently and use general office equipment.
