Join our team and make an impact!The System Evaluation team of Distributed Systems Group is seeking a Senior Electric Vehicle-Grid Integration Engineer to lead research into large-scale electrification of transportation systems and its impact on nation’s ability to provide a decarbonized, flexible, resilient, and secure energy system. This position offers the opportunity to lead innovative, interdisciplinary, and high-impact research addressing the science and technology challenges associated with a decarbonized and highly electrified transportation network. The successful candidate will provide technical leadership to PNNL’s research at the intersection of modeling, control, optimization, and analysis of transportation electrification at grid-scale.ResponsibilitiesThe successful candidate will:

Advance state-of-the-art technologies and concepts in modeling and optimization of EV-Grid integration with an emphasis on technology deployment and demonstration.

Lead development of new capabilities in system-level modeling, optimization, and techno-economic analysis for large-scale integration of electrification vehicles and charging infrastructure.

Drive PNNL strategic planning and definition of research priorities in vehicle-grid integration.

Build strong multidisciplinary R&D teams able to impact the scientific and technological challenges in this area.

Develop the strategy and manages day-to-day science and technology activities, providing scientific and technical authority, leadership, and direction.

Lead scoping, scheduling, and budgeting of complex interdisciplinary projects and programs.

Publish as primary or contributing author on high-impact publications or reports.

Lead national and international professional activities and external collaborations. This includes stakeholder engagements with industry (including grid planning entities, utilities, regulatory bodies, vehicle and charging manufacturers).

Mentor other Laboratory scientists and engineers and is technical resource to other staff members and assists in attracting top scientist/engineer talents to PNNL.

The successful candidate will be accountable to the Distributed Systems Group Leader and the System Evaluation Team Leader for general staff performance and development, operational discipline (e.g., maintaining training qualifications, procedural compliance, safe operations), and project execution, and will work with the project management office director or project managers to ensure delivery of project work on time and within budget.QualificationsMinimum Qualifications:

BS/BA and 7+ years of relevant work experience -OR-

MS/MA and 5+ years of relevant work experience -OR-

PhD with 3+ year of relevant experience

Preferred Qualifications:

PhD in electrical, systems, or related engineering field with 5 or more years of experience, or a Master’s degree with 7 or more years of experience.

Strong technical expertise in EV-grid system planning, modeling/simulation, optimization, and/or techno-economic analysis.

Demonstrated experience in program design for utility and/or managed charging programs for transportation electrification.

Experience with strategy and planning for transportation electrification infrastructure through utility operators, transportation agencies, or private industry technology deployment efforts.

Successful roles as a principal investigator on multiple or complex projects or tasks.

Strong data analysis skills and expertise in software development is desirable.

Strong project management and leadership skills, with experience leading scoping, scheduling, budgeting, and building effective cross-disciplinary teams.

Demonstrated record of generating new ideas, leading the development of significant new project opportunities and proposals, and building new research and demonstration programs working collaboratively with a broad spectrum of disciplines.

Strong professional community engagement with demonstrated leadership roles on relevant technical committees.

Demonstrated record of contribution to national/international science and/or engineering research. Has led the development of significant technical products, including technical reports and journal articles, and conference presentations, which are recognized by sponsors and collaborators for their technical impact.

Demonstrated experience leading cross-organizational teams to identify and promote new capabilities that advance program strategy.
