Job DescriptionAre you a skilled maintenance professional looking for a dynamic and rewarding opportunity? The Iowa Department of Administrative Services (DAS) is seeking a dedicatedMaintenance Repairerto join our General Service Enterprise (GSE) team. This role offers a chance to work in a collaborative environment, maintaining and enhancing state facilities to ensure they operate at peak efficiency. If you are passionate about making a tangible impact through your technical expertise, this could be a perfect job for you!Location and hours:This position will be based out of our Facilities Management Center located at 109 S.E 13th Street, Des Moines, Iowa. Normal scheduled shift time is 8:30 am to 5:00 pm, Monday-Friday. This position will be subject to call in, shift rotation, travel and overtime.Key Responsibilities:
Preventative Maintenance:Conduct regular checks and maintenance on boilers, centralized cooling systems, and auxiliary systems according to manufacturer's specifications and industry best practices. Utilize computer skills for maintaining accurate maintenance records.
Plumbing:Install, repair, and maintain pipes and fixtures for water distribution and wastewater disposal. Perform essential plumbing repairs, including sinks, faucets, toilets, drinking fountains, and water heaters. Ensure all systems comply with building codes and safety standards.
HVAC Systems:Inspect, repair, and maintain air conditioning, heating distribution, and refrigeration systems. This includes equipment such as electric motors, heating units, heat pumps, furnaces, boilers, fans, economizers, and humidifiers. Conduct tests to diagnose and resolve issues.
Electrical Work:Repair and install standard electrical components, including motors, lighting units, switches, and wiring. Ensure the safe and effective operation of all electrical systems and fixtures.
Snow Removal:Clear snow from walkways, parking lots, and drives using shovels, plows, snow blowers, and other equipment. Apply deicing solutions to maintain safe conditions.
Collaboration:Work closely with other trades to complete projects efficiently and effectively. Review construction blueprints and specifications, research costs, and submit purchase requests as needed.
Preferred Qualifications:
Practical experience in maintenance and repair tasks, with proficiency in plumbing, HVAC, electrical systems, and general facility upkeep.
Strong problem-solving skills and the ability to diagnose and address issues efficiently.
Capability to read and understand blueprints and technical documents.
Flexibility to be on call, work shifts, travel, and handle overtime as required.

Three years of full-time work experience in two or more of the recognized building and mechanical trades (carpentry, electrical, heating and air conditioning, machinist, machine repair, masonry, painting, pipefitting, plumbing, refrigeration, and welding).
Three years of a combination of experience (as described in number one) and education, where thirty semester hours of post high school education in an accredited building or mechanical vocational program equals one year of experience.
Current and continuous experience in the state executive branch that includes two years of full-time work as a Trades Helper.

A Fire Sprinkler Installer and Maintenance License in accordance with Iowa Code Chapter 100D
A Grade 1 Water Treatment Operator certification in accordance with Iowa Administrative Code Chapter 567–81
