Heavy Equipment Mechanic/ Overhead Crane Repair
Hoist and Crane Service Technician
VM Hoist and Crane has immediate openings for Service Technicians in central Iowa near Cedar Rapids.
Our primary company mission is to install, inspect, troubleshoot and repair crane and hoisting equipment within our customer's facilities.
POSITION SUMMARY
Primary responsibility is to provide quality installations, inspections, maintenance and repairs of hoist and crane equipment. Breakdowns will require troubleshooting of mechanical and electrical components and circuits.
PRIMARY TASKS AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
Inspect overhead industrial cranes and hoists to verify safety and compliance with Mfg, OSHA and ANSI standards.
Troubleshoot and repair overhead material handling equipment.
Troubleshoot and repair electrical equipment (strong knowledge of motor controls).
Perform scheduled preventive maintenance activities on equipment.
Support customers by effectively interfacing with customer and office in repairing equipment as needed.
Evaluate and make recommendations regarding required repairs.
Provide a high level of communication with both Customer and Office.
Other duties as assigned by Manager or Supervisor.
SKILLS AND KNOWLEDGE:
High school diploma or equivalent required.
Minimum three years work experience with equipment.
Machining and welding skills desired.
Proven Mechanical and electrical skills required.
Preferred experience in electrical troubleshooting.
Good computer abilities with PDA/Smartphone experience
Ability to read and understand repair manuals and drawings.
Ability to analyze problems, recommend solutions, and initiate repairs.
Ability to use a variety of shop equipment (i.e. drill press, cut off saw, arbor press and hydraulic press)
Attention to detail and excellent follow up skills.
Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
Friendly, cooperative, customer service-minded attitude; team player.
Ability to obtain customer security badge
Preferred Qualifications:
-OSHA training
-Familiarity with 480 volt 3-phase electricity, electrical meters and fuse changes
-Second language a plus
WORK ENVIRONMENT CONSIDERATIONS:
Work various environments and working conditions depending on assignment.
Occasional overtime required.
Working at heights & some heavy lifting.
Applicants with fewer qualifications will be considered at a lower level.
Applicants must have a valid driver's license.
