We boldly go.Job Summary:This role supports Helmer Scientific, part of Trane Technologies Life Sciences Portfolio. Helmer Scientific designs, integrates, manufactures, markets, and distributes specialized medical and laboratory equipment to clinical and life science customers in over 125 countries, as well as provide after-market service and support.This Advanced Manufacturing Engineer designs and develops manufacturing processes and systems focused on exceeding quality, cost, and schedule requirements within the fabrication department. The role develops and defines concepts and processes for, and integral to, new product and product enhancement programs as well as coordinates and integrates specialized equipment, processes, and techniques into a lean manufacturing environment. This individual would be considered a specialist on complex technical issues and work independently on capital equipment justification, acquisition, implementation, and validation throughout the value stream as well as provide oversight of fabrication routing, time studies, layout, staffing and capacity calculations while leading the transfer of machine designs and process changes to operations.Responsibilities:

Experience with design for manufacturing and design for automation

Automation integration and programming experience

Evaluate and implement innovative, cost effective, safe, manufacturing processes and techniques, which will improve the effectiveness of the manufacturing operations and business systems.

Develop manufacturing planning, initial tooling requirements and costs, capability requirements, control plans, and assessments, which facilitate the definition and specification of the manufacturing processes.

Provide technical expertise and leadership for the timely resolution of manufacturing process and product design problems.

Develop and implement manufacturing flows, workstation layouts and organization, and station controls, which optimize value added operations, operating costs, and product / process quality.

Integrate closely with various functional team members collaborating while enhancing design for manufacturability and ease of integration to manufacturing facility.

Project management knowledge and skills. Estimates the time and resources required to complete a project for self and cross-functional partners. Develops plan and process for viable project.

Lead and support capital equipment procurement, implementation, and qualification throughout value stream

Design, build and document fixtures, gauges and/or inspection tools as needed

Support engineering prototype management for existing and new product introduction.

Other Responsibilities:

Support implementation of actions in response to safety incidents and near miss.

Provide guidance to support maintenance in troubleshooting/repairing fabrication and operation equipment as required.

Create and maintain fabricated part Bill of Materials, routing, and labor requirements.

Provide guidance to support Maintenance and facilities with building upgrades/repairs as needed.

Other duties/responsibilities as assigned.

Minimum 7 years related engineering experience in manufacturing and/or fabrication environment experience required.

Bachelor’s degree in Manufacturing (preferred), Industrial and/ or Mechanical Engineering required.

Experience justifying, implementing, and validating capital equipment

Sheet metal fabrication process and equipment experience a plus

Previous experience with automation equipment, sensors, and tooling preferred

Experience with a variety of industrial controls and applications is preferred.

Experience with reading & reviewing equipment drawings, equipment electrical system diagrams, and equipment mechanical layout diagrams.

Understanding of mechanical systems in a semi and fully automated industrial application is preferred.

Certifications / Licenses:

Formal lean manufacturing training preferred.

PMP or equivalent project management certification a plus

Six Sigma, RedX or equivalent problem-solving certification a plus.

Computer Systems / Software:

Familiar with (or strong desire to learn and master) Microsoft Office applications.

Autodesk CAD/Inventor experience required.

SQL database development and Power BI dashboard development a plus.

Key Competencies:

Proficient knowledge of lean, automation, business systems, quality and product design as they relate to design for manufacturing principles and improving operator efficiency

Proficient knowledge of validation metrics and systems related to quality, cost, rate, and sustainability

Demonstrated ability to execute simultaneous complex projects

Knowledge of life cycle cost analysis, dimensional capability analysis, and capacity analysis.

Knowledge of methods, accepted practices, considerations and regulatory requirements associated with safety and protection of workers, environment and site.

Fosters an environment of trust and open communication from senior leadership to entry level operators.

Ability to promote collaboration and teamwork inside/outside the department to reach common goals; open to and solicits diverse views and opinions from others; breaks down barriers to build consensus.

Ability to actively partner with team members to provide them with pertinent information, techniques, instruction, feedback and encouragement to maximize their success on the job.

Strong communication skills directed towards training operations staff and actively participating in process conceptualization discussion, as well as justifying ideas with other organization functions
