OverviewOur expert staff provide multi-disciplinary solutions to complex energy and environmental issues. Key capabilities include science (chemical and mechanical). We employ a systems perspective that includes, discovery technology development and scale-up as well as economic, regulatory, and market acceptance issues necessary for successful technology commercialization. EP&MD focuses on three mission contributions: Clean Fossil Energy, Electricity Infrastructure, & Energy Efficiency and Renewable Energy.ResponsibilitiesWe are seeking an outstanding scientist to join our multi-disciplinary team for energy storage research to investigate cutting edge technologies in the advanced rechargeable metal-anode batteries. The successful candidate's primary responsibility will be the development of liquid electrolytes with appropriate solvation structure using new solvents, salts and additives, metal anodes with 3D structure and proper protection membrane, and advanced air electrodes with well-aligned porous structure and effective catalyst, to enable stable cycling of metal-anode based batteries. The other responsibilities include the characterization of the electrochemical and morphological properties and the investigation of the electrode/electrolyte interphases. The candidate will also prepare manuscripts for publication, present the research work internally and externally at national/international conferences, and develop new ideas for the funded research.QualificationsMinimum Qualifications:

Candidates must have received a PhD within the past five years (60 months) or within the next 8 months from an accredited college or university.

The candidate must possess a Ph.D. in Organic Chemistry, Polymeric Chemistry, Materials Science, Chemical Engineering, Physics or other related fields within the past five years from an accredited college or university

Experience in one or more of the following areas:

strong background and knowledge in fundamental materials synthesis for advanced cathode and anode materials for battery applications;

knowledge and experience with development of non-aqueous and aqueous electrolytes;

extensive knowledge and hands-on skills in material synthesis and scale-up, battery assembly and testing.

Prior experience with lithium metal batteries, sodium metal batteries, zinc batteries, and/or metal-air batteries is preferred.
