About the Professional Licensing Agency:The Indiana Professional Licensing Agency is seeking an individual to help protect the health and safety of the citizens of Indiana by providing quality, efficient service to all professional licensees, applicants, and the public. The fundamental purpose of this position is to provide administrative support to the board director, the licensing board/commissions, and to directly supervise the customer service representatives’ projects across a broad scope of career opportunities. Role Overview: The Associate General Counsel for IPLA will advise and provide legal support to agency staff on various programs and legal areas. You will research, interpret, and provide legal advice in relation to laws, rules, and legal opinions pertaining to agency operations. Salary Statement : The salary for this position traditionally starts at $67,314 with 1-5 years of experience, or $85,020 with 5+ years of experience but may be greater commensurate with education and work experience. A Day in the Life:

May oversee, draft, review, or provide legal advice relating to contracts

May draft and review legislation and administrative rules

Utilizes legal resources, dockets, legal files, and official records of relating to legal procedures

Creates, prepares, and distributes documents related to hearings, including orders and decisions

May handle administrative matters and hearings while maintaining appropriate decorum, hear evidence, rule on the admissibility of evidence, and/or make reasoned decisions supported by evidence

May be required to utilize litigation skills and experience relating to agency operations

Organizes and manages caseload in the preparation of hearings and/or litigation

May review pleadings, motions, and discovery

May draft appeals, or briefs, or perform legal writing assignments

What You'll Need for Success:

The ideal candidate in this role should have:

Indiana Bar Admission license in good standing (Required)

Doctorate of Jurisprudence with 5+ years of legal experience as a practicing attorney

Demonstrated knowledge and ability to apply relevant statutes, case law, and rules

Ability to effectively communicate both orally and in writing

Ability and experience working productively with limited supervision in a collaborative setting

Knowledge of and experience with State of Indiana contracts and procurement processes

Experience negotiating contract terms and language

Knowledge of and experience with State of Indiana rulemaking procedures

Ability to research statutes and case law to advise the agency

Ability to analyze proposed legislation to advise the agency

Ability to draft orders and analyze filings

Specialized knowledge of the licensure requirements, statutes, and rules for assigned boards and agency-wide policies
