Medical Coder

Description We are offering a contract to permanent employment opportunity for a Medical Coder in FORT WAYNE, Indiana. This role entails working in the healthcare industry, specifically dealing with data entry, medical coding, and auditing. The Medical Coder is expected to handle a variety of tasks including reviewing medical records, ensuring compliance with coding regulations, and liaising with healthcare professionals. Responsibilities Assign and sequence all codes for services rendered by accurately using CPT, ICD-10, and HCPCS codes. Review patient medical records from healthcare professionals to gain a comprehensive understanding of the patient’s health and the treatments provided. Verify that the assigned codes meet all federal, insurance, and company regulations and policies to reduce chances of fraudulent or misleading coding. Collaborate with healthcare providers and other medical staff to clarify diagnoses or to get additional information. Ensure healthcare providers comply with coding regulations and procedures to help organizations avoid penalties or denials from insurance companies due to coding errors. Stay updated with ever-changing coding principles, procedures, rules, and regulations. Enter data into relevant databases and maintain accurate electronic health records. Use problem-solving abilities to resolve coding issues and enhance the accuracy of the coding process. Carry out the internal review of coding and billing information for accuracy before claim submission. Adhere to the strictest confidentiality protocols to protect sensitive patient information. Ensure all coded data and related information are well-documented and prepare necessary reports as needed. Assist in processing insurance claims and work closely with billing teams, providing them with necessary coded data for claim submission. Requirements Possess proficiency in medical coding systems and tools such as 3M, 3m Coding, Allscripts, and Cerner Technologies. Hold a solid understanding of medical billing functions. Demonstrated experience in auditing within the healthcare industry. Must be well-versed with medical terminology and coding principles. Ability to ensure accuracy and compliance in patient records. Strong attention to detail and the capacity to work with precision. Excellent communication and interpersonal skills for effective collaboration with healthcare professionals. Proven ability to maintain confidentiality and adhere to data privacy guidelines. Capacity to work independently and manage time effectively. A strong commitment to ongoing detail oriented development and staying updated with changes in medical coding practices.
