Position: Senior Accountant
Company: Fort Wayne Housing Authority
Pay: $80+
Position Overview:
The Senior Accountant will oversee financial management, including budgeting, accounting, grants management, compliance, and risk management. This position will also provide strategic guidance to ensure fiscal responsibility, regulatory compliance, transparency, and sound stewardship of resources.
Key Responsibilities:
Financial Strategy & Oversight
Lead the annual budgeting process and long-term financial planning.
Monitor financial performance and prepare regular reports for leadership, the Board, and external stakeholders.
Maintain strong internal controls and safeguard organizational assets.
Compliance & Risk Management
Ensure compliance with all applicable federal, state, and local financial regulations.
Oversee audits (financial, programmatic, and compliance) and ensure timely submission of required filings, including IRS Form 990.
Develop and update financial policies and procedures based on industry best practices.
Grants & Funding Oversight
Manage financial aspects of grant funding and ensure compliance with grantor requirements.
Track restricted funds and provide accurate financial reporting for both public and private grants.
Leadership & Team Development
Lead and mentor the finance and accounting team to foster growth and excellence.
Serve as a key advisor to the CEO, Board of Directors, and Finance & Audit Committees.
Participate actively in strategic planning and organizational leadership initiatives.
Qualifications:
Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field
5-7 years of progressive financial management experience, including at least 3 years in a senior leadership role is preferred.
Experience in nonprofit, government, or public sector finance a plus.
Strong understanding of nonprofit financial management, including grant compliance and restricted funds is preferred.
Excellent leadership, communication, and relationship-building skills.
Demonstrated integrity, transparency, and commitment to ethical financial stewardship.
Preferred Qualifications:
Experience working with Boards of Directors and audit committees.
Familiarity with financial management software (e.g., Sage Intacct, QuickBooks Nonprofit).
Ability to present complex financial information clearly to non-financial audiences.
